How to Install the K Source Universal Clip-On Towing Mirror on a 2020 Ford Explorer

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Ford Explorer, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the K-Source universal fit towing mirror which is also sold as a set. Whenever we're using a towing mirror, it's really going to help expand our field of view. And that's going to be really useful in those situations where maybe you're going to make a lane change, back up into a tight parking spot, or maybe you just want to keep a closer eye on what's happening behind you.Just to give you an example on how much more ground we're able to cover, as you can see I'm visible in our towing mirror, but not in our factory mirror. However, if I take a few steps over closer to our trailer, I'll disappear out of that towing mirror and become visible in the factory mirror and that's really going to help eliminate any of those blind spots as well. One of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to these universal fit towing mirrors is if you're going to have any noise or vibration, especially at higher speeds.Well to be honest with you, this one fits extremely well on our factory Explorer mirror.

As you can see if I kind of move our tow around, it actually moves that whole housing so I really don't see that noise being an issue for you. Now what's really nice about this tow mirror is we're still going to be able to maintain full adjustment of our factory lens. And that's not something you see all the time with these universal fit towing mirrors so that's always a nice bonus and something we're not going to have to worry about whenever we need to make an adjustment to our factory lens here. Now I want to mention one thing I did notice, if we do need to fold our mirrors in for whatever reason, say if we're parked on the street or something like that, we're not going to be able to go completely in, but we can still move it quite a bit to free up a little bit of space. So the way the towing mirror is able to stay so secure to the factory mirror is these ratcheting straps. So they're really going to pull everything nice and tight.

We're not going to have to worry about them scratching up the finish, and that's because these feet here are actually made from a soft rubber and so we're not going to have to worry about those scratches. And actually how I have this position now, these feet are almost contoured perfectly to our Explorer's mirror so it really does fit nicely on here. So in all honesty, this mirror works very well with the Explorer. A lot of these universal fit mirrors fit okay, but not this good. This one just contours nicely and fits like a glove, it almost seems like it was built for the Explorer to be honest with you. But that's not to say this won't work well with other vehicles as well.

Since it is universal if you do happen to have another vehicle in the household, chances are pretty good this will work with it too.Now as far as the installation goes, it's super simple and it shouldn't take you a whole lot of time at all. To get the mirror on, what you're going to do is simply hold it like this and put it flat against the housing. Now these little keepers here, how it going to work say if my finger is the factory mirror housing it's going to fit in between there like that. So make sure you put all of them in there correctly. So I'll just hold it flat on a nice spot where we want it, you can hold it in place with one hand and move around to the other side. From there, we can just take our straps and these tabs here and just loop them through that opening.

I'm just going to get them both going and since these are ratcheting, we can just kind of push all the slack out of there. And then if you need to, you can always give it an extra clicker too to really tighten things up. Now if you picked up a set, you'd simply just repeat the same process over on the other side. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the K-Source universal fit towing mirror on our 2020 Ford Explorer..
