How to Install the Malone SteelTop Square Crossbars Roof Rack on a 2017 Toyota RAV4

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Toyota RAV4, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Malone square bar roof rack system. It's available in a 50 inch kit, with part number MPG201. It's also available in a 58 inch kit, part number MPG202. This entry level roof rack system is going to allow you to carry roof mounted accessories on your Toyota RAV4, things like bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo boxes, and much more.It features a traditional square bar design. This is the more economical choice, though they won't be as quiet as an aero bar design. If you're interested in the aero style, check out Malone's aero roof rack system.

It features a weight capacity of 165 pounds, though you will want to check with your RAV4's owner's manual to see if your roof can support that much weight. As you can see here, with our roof rack system in place, we still have full use of our sun roof. Now we'll give you some clearance measurements. From the top of the roof to the underside of the bar, is about two inches. From the top of top of the roof to the top of the bar, is about three inches. One other great thing I like about this roof rack system, is that the locks are included, unlike some other roof rack systems. As you can see, it's going to hide our hardware, and prevent anyone from removing them from our raised rails.

Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. I've already gone ahead and installed my front crossbar. The rear on installs the same way. Let's go ahead and show you how we did that. Now right off the bat, what I like about the Malone roof rack system, is it comes preassembled right out of the box.

We just need to set it in place. So I'm going to set it in my raised rails. Now we want to be sure and set it up where it's going to work best with our accessories. Now before we tighten them down, we need to make sure that our bars are parallel. So we can just simply take a tape measure, measure center on center. Make it's the same number on both sides.

Then we need to make sure we have even bar overhang. Now with this you can either eye it up, or use a tape measure. Now we can take our included tool, and tighten down the center bolt here. And by doing so, it's going to squeeze that clamp around our raised rails, and make a nice tight fit. Once one side's done, repeat the same process on the opposite side. With both sides tightened down, we can then take our included locks, and lock those down. With both bars installed, we're ready to load up our favorite accessories and hit the road. And that's going to complete our test fit on the Malone square bar roof rack system on our 2017 Toyota RAV4.
