How to Install the Malone SteelTop Universal Roof Rack on a 2018 Subaru Forester

Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Subaru Forester, we're going to be test fitting the Malone Steel Top Roof Rack System part number MPG202. This consists of 58" long crossbars and it will be attached to your factory rate side rails. It should also be noted that this is the exact same insulation procedure for part number MPG201 as well. The Malone Steel Top Roof Rack System is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof, while freeing up space inside your vehicle. And while the square bars are sturdy by themselves, they are going to make noise while you travel. One of the best things about this roof rack system is everything comes already assembled, unlike others where you would have to assemble the feet or the legs or whatever you want to call it, into place. It also has this lock at the end here, so once you install this it is going to be secure to your factory raised side rails.

I'd like to give you a couple of quick measurements now. From the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar, is goin to be about 2 1/8th inches. From the center to the top is going to be about 3 1/8 inches. That gives you plenty of space in between the bar and the roof to install your roof accessories. Now one thing that I would like to note though, it may impede your use of your sun roof if you have one. Just keep that in mind once you have these installed.

Also, both bars have a combined carrying capacity of 165 pounds, but always double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand those weights. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how in installs. We have our front bar already installed on our vehicle and we'll now just set our rear bar in place, get some measurements down and then tighten it in. We'll take our bar and set it in place at the rear portion here. In our next step we're going to measure from center to center of the bars to make sure they're even on both sides. Then we'll measure from this point out to make sure the crossbar over hang is also even on both sides.

And then we can start tightening it down. When measuring from center to center, you just want to make sure you don't go under 24'. With everything even now, we can tighten down our bolts in the center with the included Allen tool.Final step is to put in our lock core, turn it to the side. We'll do the same on the other side. Now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. And there you have it for the Malone Steel Top Roof Rack System on our 2018 Subaru Forrester..
