Today on our 2013 Ford Focus we'll be installing the Roadmaster 12-volt outlet kit, part number RM-9332. Now for our application we're adding a 12-volt outlet for a supplemental braking system so we're going to mount it near the kick panel on the driver side. Now with our additional 12-volt outlet, whether using it for your supplemental braking system or you could plug in phone charger, GPS, or really any 12-volt operated device up to 20 amps, such as a light. Here we have our 12-volt outlet and our ground and positive cables. We're going to go ahead and route them over an impact bar next to the interior light and then towards the firewall. Now once I have it in position I'm going to go ahead and secure it with a zip tie. I'm going to cut off the excess from the zip tie to get it out of the way and clean up my install look.
This application already has a slice cut in the manufacturer's grommet with a wire running through it so we're just going to go ahead and utilize that same grommet. Here next to the steering shaft you can see the grommet and the wires that have previously been run through it. Now to help locate our wiring once it routes into the engine compartment we're going to use a pull wire. The pull wire will go through the grommet to the top of the engine compartment. Now with our pull wire in place we'll go ahead and attach our wiring harness to it. I'm just going to use some black electrical tape.
Next I'll move into the engine compartment and pull the wire through the grommet to the top of the engine compartment. Now that we've used the pull wire to get access to our wiring harness we'll go ahead and remove the tape. Let's go ahead and connect our power side first. Using a pair of wire strippers we'll cut off the spade terminal, strip it back. We'll slide the ring terminal onto the strip-backed wire and then crimp it down. Inside the large section here is the inline fuse holder.
We can just leave it in there. Be careful, as it is spring-loaded, so when taking it off the cap it's easy to lose that fuse. Now that we've got it back together going to go ahead and peel these two wires apart a little bit, route it inside the fuse box. Note, some of these positive battery post nuts are not intended to come all the way off, so what we'll have to do is cut a small slice in the ring terminal and just slide it on between the positive battery post and the nut and washer. Now once I've got it in place I'll go ahead and tighten it down. Now using a zip tie I'm just going to go ahead and secure our positive side to the manufacturer's wiring.
Next we'll take our ground side of our harness, route it around the fuse box, remove the ground stud. Next we'll go ahead and add our larger ring terminal, cut off the old one, strip back our wire, install our ring terminal and crimp it down. Then go ahead and reinstall our ground stud. Now once we have both sides connected we'll go ahead and finish securing our wiring, clean up our install look, then reinstall the battery cover. There you have it for the install and operation of our Roadmaster 12-volt outlet kit, part number RM-9332, on our 2013 Ford Focus. .
