How to Install a Trailer Connector Socket on a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Colorado we're going to show you how to install the Pollak 7 and 4 Pole Trailer Connector Socket with Mounting Bracket. Part number is HM40975. This is what our wiring kit is going to look like when we pull it out of the package. As you can see we have a bracket and a couple of self-tapping screws. We're not going to need those, we can set these aside. This plug's been designed specifically to slide into the back bumper where the hold already exists. All we'll need to do is unplug the 7 pole connector that's on the back of the false plug, plug it into here and clip it into position.

It's a really simple, straightforward installation. It's going to give us our 7 pole side, and also our 4 pole side, so this is going to eliminate the need for adapters. You see this heavy duty construction is going to have a high-tension spring in there. It's going to keep our cover closed. We've also got a rubber gasket in here that's going to keep out the elements. Same thing on the 4 pole side.

We've got the nice gasket there and our spring helps keep this closed while we're heading down the road, so we won't have to worry about dirt, debris or corrosion. Here you see our factory connector. It's plugged into the back side of this false plug. What we want to do it slide out on the little silver keeper tab there, and then we press in on that small black tab. Wiggle it to separate it there, and we'll remove our false plug. Then we'll add some contact grease there just to help protect that from any corrosion or any dirt or debris that get in there.

If you don't have any at home, this is part number 11755. Slide that right into the connector, you'll hear that click, press in on the silver tab, and all we have to do is slide it in position. We're going to use our little tester here just to plug this into our 4 pole, just like that. I'm just going to use a socket just to hold it up to where you can actually see it. I should be able to run through the running lights, blinkers and brakes and you see signals for each of those. Start by turning on our headlights, it should give you the running light signal.

Then we can do our left blinker, right blinker then our brakes. Now we'll plug in our 7 pole tester and run through the same series of tests, however we can test our battery charge. You can see we know that tour 12 volt wire is proving us with 12 volts. We should have our running lights, left blinker, right blinker, brakes, and also reverse. With everything working properly that's going to complete our installation of the Hopkins Pollak 7 and 4 Pole Trailer Connector Socket with Mounting Bracket. Part number HM40975 on our 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
