How to Install a Trailer Connector Socket on a 2014 GMC Sierra

Today, on a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, we're going to install part number HM40975. This is a Pollack 7 and 4 pole trailer connector socket with mounting bracket. There's a couple of other parts that come with the kit. This is the bracket right here that you can use to relocate your wire harness. It also comes with the hardware, 2 self-tacking screws, to install it into steel. This is our new part.

Take a quick look at it. It's got a 4 pole on this side and the other side has a 7 pole connector. Back side, we'll put into the factory wiring harness that's located behind the bumper on our truck. It has the same latches as our new part does so all you've got to do is reach up in there and squeeze these together and pull the cap out. The wire harness we're already plugged to into the cap.

Go ahead and pull our cover loose, and here's our wire harness connected to it. Disconnect the wire harness from the cap. We have to go ahead and loosen up the gray lock right here. We'll push down with a small screwdriver and tab here and pop it loose. Then we can go ahead and push down in the black section to unlatch it and pull it apart.

Before we go ahead and put our new connector on, it might be a good idea to add some dielectric grease to your connection points. We're using part number 11755. This is electrical contact grease from LubriMatic. We just go ahead and take our connector and line it up and push it into place. We'll go in so far until it stops.

It might be a good idea to double check to make sure you didn't bend any pins. Snap it together until it clicks, and we can go ahead and reinstall the lock. This whole assembly will just simply snap back into place. In just a few moments, we had a truck that didn't have a connector on it, now we have a 7 pole connector and a 4 pole connector hooked up to the factory wire harness. With that, we're all finished with part number HM40975 on our 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. .
