How to Install the Reese Elite Series Pop In Ball Kit on a 2017 Ram 3500

Today on our 2017 RAM 3500 we're going to be taking a look at the Reese Elite Series Pop-In Ball Kit for RAM Under-Bed Gooseneck Hitch, part number RP30140. So here's what our Reese system looks like when it's fully installed. It's going to give us 2-5/16 ball, as well as, two safety chain loops right here. And they're all going to go in, into our factory mounting point and the pucks are already existing in our bed. Now one of the really nice features of this system is that when the ball is locked into place, obviously you're not going to be able to take it out. But in normal, conventional gooseneck systems, there's a handle alongside of the driver's wheel well. Well with this one, this black tab right here if we lift it up and turn it, it'll unlock and we can remove our ball.

The reason why is because the system uses a ball bearing system to grab on so it won't come out when we have it in the lock position. Now when we're not towing and we have our ball removed, we can put our factory cover back in place, but if that gets lost or damaged, Reese does provide you with a rubber cover to cover the gooseneck hole, so we won't have any dirt and debris getting in there either. Now this system does use a 2-5/16 ball, and it has a gross trailer weight rating of 30,000 pounds. Now I do want to mention, you want to double check with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure that your truck can handle that amount of weight. This kit also comes with safety chain loops and they're going to install right in your factory existing mounting holes as well. The way those are going to drop in is right here. We're going to have a small tab, and that's going to unlock it and we can turn it, then we can pull it right out. We're going to do the exact opposite to put it in.

We're going to put it in, it'll lift our latch out of the way, and we can turn it and it'll lock itself into place. Now when we're not towing, we can take all of our pieces out, put our plugs back into our bed, put all our pieces in our bag, and then we still have full access to our whole bed. So here's going to be everything that's going to come with our kit. We're going to have two safety chain loops here, we're going to have our 2-5/16 ball, and then we're going to have a nice storage bag for whenever we're not towing anything. Our first step of our installation is one to make sure that we have the factory Under-Bed Kit in our RAM. Now if you have these five pucks in your truck, then this is the right kit. Now we're going to need to remove our covers, and you simply turn them and they'll pop right out.

So now we're going to take our ball and we're going to slide it down, and as you can it's not going to go all the way in, but this black piece here, if you lift up on it, the ball will drop down, and lock into place. Now our safety chain loops are going work very similar. We're going to put them in place, and as you can see, this section right here is going to lock, come up, and unlocking it, and if we turn it, it'll drop down, now it's in the lock position. With our ball and safety chain loops in place, we're ready to tow. And that'll finish up the look at the Reese Elite Series Pop-In Ball Kit for RAM Under-Bed Gooseneck Hitch, part number RP30140, on our 2017 RAM 3500.
