How to Install a Fifth Wheel Base Rail Kit on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, well be installing part number RP50064-58, the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and 5th Wheel installation kit. Well start off in the bed of the truck where we can place our first rail according to the manufacturers specified measurements. We can then use the rail as a template to mark the four holes we will be drilling to secure it. With the rail out of the way, well go ahead and drill four pilot holes. Underneath the truck, we can then align our bracket with the pilot holes and clamp it into place. Back on top, well drill our holes out to their final size.

Underneath, well be securing the bracket to the frame with several bolts. Here, well thread on our bolt leader and push our bolt and washer into the frame and pull it back out. You want to leave the bolt leader on to help you guide the bracket into place. The outside, well get another washer and nut. We can then hold our bracket back in place with the clamp.

Well be fitting this vertical bracket back behind it and securing it with a flat washer, lock washer and nut on both the top and the bottom. We can then repeat these steps and secure our other bracket on the opposite side of the truck. Before we can secure our rail to our bracket, well need to bend up part of the bed to fit under the lip of our bracket here on the inside of the frame. We can now secure our rail by first placing spacer block between the rail and the bed and then dropping in our bolts. Underneath our bolt, well get another block, a lock washer, and a nut.

On top, we can fit our 5th Wheel into place to determine the placement of our second rail. Well then want to measure to ensure our rail is centered. We can then use the rail as a template to mark the four hole we will be drilling to secure it. We can then attach our rail to our bracket, this time, placing our first spacer block between the underside of the bed and the bracket. With our second rail in placed, we can tighten our bolts down.

Up top, well test fit our 5th Wheel to make sure it easily fits into the rails. With everything that fits, we have two more holes to drill here in the center of our rails. This will get a washer and nut on the underside. Now, we can tighten down all of our bolts and then torque them to the manufacturers specifications. That completes our install of the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and 5th Wheel installation kit part number RP50064-58 on our 2008 Chevrolet Silverado.
