How to Install the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter on a 2017 Jayco

Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2017 Jayco North Point fifth wheel. I'm gonna walk you through how to install the Reese Goose Box fifth wheel to gooseneck pin box. This is what it's gonna look like when it's installed. If you've never towed a gooseneck or a fifth wheel trailer before I've towed quite a few, I've actually towed both, you have good fifth wheels and you have good goosenecks.

You have bad fifth wheels and you have bad goosenecks. In my opinion, this goose box here is a good one. It's gonna have an air suspension in it. So on a typical goose neck, it's just the post that comes down and sits on top of the ball. While when your trailer hits a bump or your truck hits a bump, you're feeling a lot of that road shock or you're feeling a lot of chucking from the trailer, kind of pushing the trailer around.

Same thing with, with your fifth wheels. With this goose box it has air suspension in it. So you can adjust the air pressure, which is gonna take up a lot of that road shock. You're not gonna feel it as much. You're also gonna not feel the chucking.

So it's gonna eliminate a lot of it. You're not gonna feel that that trailer, when it's hitting a bump on, on lower ground, or you're gonna stop or take off, you're not gonna feel that trailer pushing or pulling on that truck. It's gonna make your ride a lot more comfortable. This goose box is gonna work a weight limit up to 20,000 pounds. It is gonna require a two and 5/16ths ball.

A couple other nice features, It's gonna have an automatic latch here, so, all you would do is set the, set this down on your ball. This lever, it's gonna come back like this. And then it's gonna pop back forward once it's around the ball pull. To unhook it, Simply take the cable, you're gonna take this little tab here and you're gonna put it behind this bracket. That's gonna hold that open so that all you have to do is just lift the trailer straight off the ball. If you're new at it and doing this for the first time, you forget how to lock and unlock it. There's a couple of stickers here that'll help guide you. On the backside here, we're gonna have a small zerk fitting and that is to allow you to grease this pin so your lever moves freely. Now you'll also notice there's a hole here and a hole here. This allows you to lock that closed. We move up here. These are gonna be your two air shocks. That'll allow us to add pressure and decrease the pressure as needed. We follow the line up, this is gonna be our fitting to fill our two shots. This box is gonna be designed to replace the 1621, 1621HD and the 0719 pin boxes. also compatible with the 1716 pin box but it will require spacer kit, you can find that spacer kit here at etrailer. As far as the installation process, pretty simple and straightforward. You will probably need to take a few measurements depending on the vehicle that you're using, but it is gonna come with new hardware. And again, I've used both fifth wheels and gooseneck trailers. And if you're looking to go from a fifth wheel to a gooseneck, I recommend this one. I recommend going with one that has air right in it, because it's gonna make your ride quality much better inside the vehicle. To start your installation, You're gonna have several different holes here on your pin box. The easiest way that I've found is if you've measured the bed of your truck, because this is gonna be sitting on a ball, measure it from the ground to the bed height of your truck. There's two settings for the 1621 pin box. This here, this interval, this one here is gonna be for standard height And then these two, and then if you go up to these two, it's gonna be your lower heights. So what it's gonna do is it's gonna pull the nose up just a little bit. So we're setting it on the standard height because we measured the bed, got our trailer level and determined that that's gonna be the best setup. So what we're gonna do is we're using a forklift. Obviously you're probably not gonna have a forklift at your house. Grab a couple of people, raise it up into place. There's gonna be four bolts on each side, you're gonna have a bolt flat washer. Head side goes from the outside, on the inside you're gonna have a lock washer and a nut. Again, we're gonna be using these two holes and they're gonna line up with these two holes. We're gonna take one of our bolts with a flat washer on it. Remember that on the outside and a few through the hole on the inside, conical tooth washer followed by a nut. Make sure the teeth are facing towards the hitch. Same thing for the bottom hole on the other side. Take a 1516 socket once we get all of our hardware in place, then we'll tighten everything down. We're gonna come back, we're gonna torque our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. And we're gonna repeat that for the remaining hardware. Once you have it installed, go ahead and hook it up your truck. You want to make sure that you have at least seven inches from the bottom edge here to the bed rails, top of the bed rails. If not go ahead and make any adjustments necessary and you're ready to go. That's gonna do it for the look at and installation on the Reese Goose Box fifth wheel to gooseneck hitch or pin box on a 2017 Jayco North Point fifth wheel..
