Review of the Rhino Rack Roof Rack on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System consisting of part numbers RRVA137B-2. Those are the Vortex Aero Crossbars 54" long in black. These also come in silver as part number RRVA137S-2. We'll also be using part number RRRLKVA, and these are the Rhino Rack 2500 Series Legs for the Vortex Aero Crossbars. Part number DK360, and this is the custom fit kit for this vehicle. Now, the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System is great for carrying a wide variety of objects, and possibly freeing up some space in your vehicle. It can carrying anything from bike racks, to cargo baskets, to cargo boxes to water sport carriers, such as kayaks and canoes, or even ski and snowboard carriers.

It has these vortex strips up at the top, and that coupled with the aerodynamic design of the bars will actually cut down wind noise and drag while you're driving. Also, if we remove our end caps here, you see that it is actually capable of having T-track accessories as well. Also, the 2500 Series Legs also come with these lockable covers here. Once you install, it's going to be secured to your vehicle. Now, the carrying capacity for both of these bars is going to be 165 pounds. Although, you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand that weight.

Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. Now, we have it partially assembled on our table here. Here are some of the items that are going to come with it. Here's a 2500 Series Legs. Here are the covers here that do come with the keys to lock it up.

We have our end cap, which we've already removed and the tool to do so. Then we have our fit kit items here, the rubber pad and the clamp. Let's go ahead and show you how to install. First thing we'll do is we'll take our bar and flip it upside down. Then, we'll install our leg onto our crossbar. What we'll do is we'll take this metal piece here, and we'll slide it into the T Slot here.

We'll line it up and slide it into place. Now, in your instructions it's going to give you a measurement of how much space is going to be between this edge here and the actual leg. Here's the strip. You would put it into place, make a cut, so it would actually stay in place afterward. However, for demonstration purposes, we're going to just go ahead and measure it out with our measuring tape. We'll line it up. Then, we'll tighten down the screw in the center here with our included tightening tool. All right. Now, we can put our end cap back on as well. We'll just push that into place, and then take our tool here to put our plastic lock into the locked position. Now the end cap won't come off. All right. Now, we'll go ahead and put our rubber pad here into place. Now, these are all numbered and have arrows on them. You want to make sure that the arrows are facing away from the vehicle. We'll just push them into place. All right. Next, we'll go ahead and install our clamp. I'll just unscrew this screw here, line up our holes, and just loosely install it back in so it stays in place. Now, we're ready to place it on our vehicle. To put our rear bar in place, we'll open our rear doors on both sides. Then, we'll set the bar in place. Next, I'll take our crossbar spread measurement, and it's going to be from center of the bar to center of the bar. We're going to do this on both sides. You'll find this measurement in your instructions. With both sides even, we can start tightening it down, again, with our blue-handled tightening tool. We'll line up our clamp. Just, kind of, push it up into place and loosely tighten it up, so it's just gripping our door seam here. Do the same on the other side. Once they're snug, we'll start tightening them down evenly on both sides. You're going to notice our tightening tool has this curve to it. Once it's completely tightened down, as you tighten it with your thumb, it's going to straighten out. We'll go for the last few turns here. See how it straightened out. That means it's nice and secure to our roof. Our final step is to go ahead and put our locking covers on. For these, you want to line up these two tabs with these open portions here. Push them into place. Take your keys and lock them down. Now they're secured to your roof, and we're ready to hit the road. There you have it for the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe.
