How to Install the RoadMaster Coiled Safety Cables on a 2018 Jeep JK Wrangler

Today, in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster 68-inch Single Hook Coiled Safety Cables, part number RM-643.If you're looking to flat tow your Jeep, there are going to be several components for a complete setup so we can safely get it down the road. So, we need a base plate. We have our Roadmaster EZ4 base plate. You'll need a tow bar to hook everything up. We have our Roadmaster StowMaster. You'll need wiring, we have the Roadmaster Diode Kit with the included plug and cable.

You'll need a set of safety cables, we have the Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables. Finally, you'll need a braking system. We're using the Stay and Play Duo.Once you have all of these components in place, you're ready to load up your motor home and hit the road.Whenever we're towing our Jeep and our motor home, safety cables are going to be a very important piece of the equation. The safety cables are going to provide us an extra security because they're going to attach directly to our base plate and they're also going to attach directly to the hitch that's on our motor home. The cables themselves are going to be made out of steel with a vinyl coating on them to prevent from scratching our tow bar or anything else. The hooks are going to be heavy duty, drop forged steel and they're going to have a spring loaded latch that's going to add extra security and make it easy to hook up.The cables are going to be coiled so they are going to have a natural spring to them which means they're going to take up some of that flack and we don't have to worry about them dragging to the ground. Our cables are going to be a total of 60 inches long and have a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. Our cables are going to come as a set, so we'll get a total of two of them as well as two quick links to get everything hooked up.

Let's show you how to do that now.To hook up our safety cables, I'm going to take the snap hook end and I'm going to hook it directly to the anchor point that's on our base plate and we'll do that on both sides. So now we can take the end of our safety cable and I'm going to route it toward the center of my tow bar. On our tow bar, we have a spot that they want us to pass our cables through so we'll pass it through the channel and since this cable came from the drivers side, we're going to pass it over to the passenger side on the motor home. Then we can take one of our quick links, we'll open it up, make sure it goes around the safety chain loop, pass our cable through and then we can tighten it up. Then we'll hook up the other side the same way.Once you have your cables hooked up, you want to make sure the quick links are nice and tight and that everything else is hooked up.That'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster Single Hook Coiled Safety Cables, part number RM-643 on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK.
