Today in our 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we'll be having a look at installing the RoadMaster 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil kit, part number RM-146-7. Here's what our wiring looks like installed. It mounts nicely to our baseplate. We have this nice dust cover here that snaps shut, spring-loaded action. It seals tightly against our connector here, to keep the dirt and the elements outside of it. It also will secure our six-pole round connector inside with this latch right here, so we don't have to worry about it getting disconnected by any forward movement on it. This connector, coupled with the 7-way to 6-pole adaptor, will transmit the signals from our RV to our Jeep, allowing us to have functional tail-lights, turn signals, and brake lights, in conjunction with the RV working in unison, treating our Jeep as a trailer, so all of our lights, that are required by law, work properly while we're flat-towing behind our RV. Because our 6-function is built in here, you could also use it for a monitor light situation on your RV, for when the vehicle's brakes are applied in this supplemental braking system or you could also have a charge line adaptor work for it as well, to charge your vehicle's battery whilst being towed behind your RV. Now, my favorite thing about this kit is that it's a complete package. Not only do you get your 7-way to your 6-way adaptor, but you get your 6-way connector here to put on the front of your vehicle.
It has a nice secure mount, works nicely with RoadMaster base plates. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. Okay, first thing we need to do is separate our 4-pole wiring here. Our ground wire's already been done. Now our particular vehicle has a braking system installed and with this connector that we're using, we can now combine our monitor inaudible 00:01:58 wire and through our umbilical wire that we're installing, so instead of making two electrical connections, we're only making one. So we'll cut off that butt connector here as well.
Now we'll strip back some insulation from all five wires. We'll take our protective dust cap off and we'll stick all of our wires through the dust cap, making sure they go in through the small end. A lot of applications, you won't have this black wire, so we'll leave that one for last. We'll start with our right-turn signal here. This is also our right brake light. This green wire, we'll match that up with the appropriate terminal, which is right here, the one marked "RT" so we'll loosen that on up, stick the green wire inside and tighten the set screw back down.
Make sure it's nice and secure. We'll do our left turn signal now. This one marked "LT". That'll get our yellow wire. We'll do our ground now. And I'll get our white wire.
Now we'll do our tail light and marker lights. That's the one marked "TM". Okay now, this one marked here "S" is for auxiliary stop lights or if you had a brake controller in your RV, this would apply your trailer brakes but in our case, our RV does not have a brake controller installed but we're using the wire based upon that for a monitor light inside of it, so our monitor light wire from our braking system that we have installed will go here as well. Here's what it looks like with all of our wires installed. Now we'll slot our dust cover on down and to really get a nice secure, weather tight connection, we'll take some electrical tape. We'll tape our dust cover to our socket, here. This'll help prevent any elements from entering, causing corrosion or a short in the future. Then for a nice, clean install, I like to tape up or down our inaudible 00:04:38 too, so they're hidden and we don't have any colored wire sticking out behind our grille opening. Then we'll secure it. We have to provide our screws from our base plate. And that gives us a nice, solid mount and a great connection for our electrical connections between our Jeep and our RV. Okay, now we'll test it. We can use either of the trailer testers here that we have. We have this available on our website, if you'd like to purchase one or you can just plug it in the back of your RV. We'll start off by doing our right brake light. As you can see, that's working. Do our left brake light. We can see that's working too. Both these inaudible 00:05:27 turn signals once again. We'll do our tail-lights and, as you can see, that's working too. And that completes our look at and installation of the RoadMaster 7-wire to 6-wire Flexo-Coil kit, part number RM-146-7 on our 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
