How to Install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit on a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, we'll be installing the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part number RM-751439. To begin our install, we'll be utilizing the manufacturer's brake pedal arm and fastener. This switch kit will work in conjunction with the vehicle's brake pedal. Supplied with the install kit there's a bracket that will get mounted using the manufacturer's hardware. If we look above the brake pedal, we'll locate a bolt that goes into the brake pedal housing. We'll need to remove the bolt, put it though the stop light switch bracket, and then reinstall the bolt. Once we have our bracket tightened down, the second hole here at the bottom of the bracket will line up with the brake pedal arm.

Next we'll go ahead and prepare the switch. To prepare the switch, we'll use the connectors and wire provided, install them under the switch and then the switch to the bracket. Our stoplight switch will get connected to the bracket we just installed and become our new brake switch. To operate the brake switch, we'll need a power wire which is provided with the install kit and the second one will go directly to the red wire from our two cable wire for our monitor light. Let's go ahead and prep the first one. Quick tech tip, as a recommendation, I like to keep the fuse holders, if possible, on the inside away from the dirt, dust, debris and moisture that can contaminate them when in the engine compartment.

We'll go ahead and connect the fuse holder's side to our stop light switch. For this application, we will not be using the green wire. Next, we'll take our two wire cable that we cut off the end earlier, strip it back and add it to the other side of our stop light switch. Now with both wires connected, we'll go ahead and slide it into the mouth and then secure it with a nut, making necessary adjustment so that when the brake pedal is depressed, our switch will be extended. When the brake pedal is not depressed in a normal position will be closed. See as the brake pedal is depressed, it releases the switch.

With that brake switch connected, we'll take the other end of our two wire cable, connect it to the black wire. To do that we use the quick connector provided with the install kit, then we'll take the brown wire and plug it in to the quick connect we installed on the black wire. Before we secure the wiring, we'll take the red wire and run it in the engine compartment. We'll use a pole wire to assist in getting our wire into the engine compartment. The red wire get routed to the positive battery post from our stop light switch we added inside. To make our connection, we go ahead and first remove the stud here on the positive battery post.

Next, we'll take the power wire, strip it back and add a ring terminal. Once we have the ring terminals installed, we'll go ahead and put the threaded stud back on and tying it down. Once it's installed and secured, that will be install of the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part number RM-751439 on our 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. .
