How to Install the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit on a 2018 Ford F-150

Today on our 2018 Ford F-150, you're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for towed vehicles. This is what our charge line looks like when it's installed. What you need to do is you're going to have a breaker in one long, red wire. What this is going to do, this is going to allow you to charge your battery on your F-150 while it's being flat-towed.As far as the installation goes, it's a pretty simple, straightforward installation. You're going to have a breaker, you're going to have a couple ring terminals for your breaker, and you're going to have one large ring terminal for your battery side. You're also going to have one roll of red wire, and that's going to run down to your 6 pole plug on the front of the vehicle.

What you need to do is you need to find a location to mount your breaker. Make sure it's not going to touch any metal. You can see where I have it mounted here. Battery box on this is pretty big. There's wide open space here; this is where I mounted it.You're going to have a copper-colored post and a silver-colored post.

The copper-colored post is the post that you're going to run the wire off that goes down to your 6 pole plug. Silver colored post, it's going to say auxiliary on it, or aux. That's going to run to your battery in your F-150. Now, the reason you're going to need the charge line kit in your F-150 is because when the vehicle is being flat-towed, the key has to be in the accessory-on position, which means that your radio and everything else is going to be on while it's being towed. If you don't have the charge line, what that's going to do, it's going to drain your battery.

You're going to get to wherever you're going and you're not going to be able to go anywhere. Again, the charge line is going to allow you to charge your battery while the vehicle is being flat-towed, so you're not going to have to worry about your battery being dead whenever you get to your destination.Something to note: you will need to have 12 volt power from your RV for this charge line kit to work on the towed vehicle. Most of your newer RVs are going to have a 7 pole plug, which will have that charge line already on it. If you have an older RV, there is an option for a charge line kit on the RV side to provide the power for this kit. That is sold separately, but it can be found on etrailer.com.Now as far as routing this, again, the copper side is going to go down to your 6 pole plug mounted on the front of the vehicle.

I routed my wire right here behind the battery. You can see right down here, I kind of went back behind the headlight and I went straight down. It's kind of next to the radiator. It comes out . You're not going to be able to see it too well, but it comes out underneath the plastic guard here on the bottom of our bumper and I routed right up and through the center here. I actually have it covered with some wire loom to keep it nice and hidden, but there's actually a hole . hole's already in this plastic piece down here that you can just feed it right through. And then you're going to hook it back in the center post of your 6 pole plug. That'll do it for our look at the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for towed vehicles on our 2018 Ford F-150.
