Review of the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack on a 2013 Ford Edge

Today, on our 2013, Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Sport Rack semi-custom roof rackfor naked roofssquare cross bars 50 inches long, part number SR-1010 with our roof rack assembled according to the instructions, we'll begin our test fit by opening both front doors. We'll place our front bar onto the front part of our roof. To ensure that we have this bar in the correct spot, we need to measure 9 inches from the center of our door jamb to the center of our footpack. We'll do this measurement on both sides, to make sure that our feet are in-linewith each other. We can use the included Allen key to tighten the Allen bolt to secure our foot clamp around the roof line of our vehicle. We'll do this on both sides.

We'll open the rear doors and place the rear bar onto the rear part of theroof. To make sure we have this in the correct spot, we need to measure 26 inches from the center of our front bar to the center of our rear bar. We'll do this measurement on both sides, to ensure that our feet are in line with each other and that our bars are parallel. Once we have it positioned correctly, we can then repeat the same tightening process that we used at the front. With our bars all tight and secure, we can now go ahead and replace the black plastic covers onto our foot packs.

That completes today's test fit of the sport racksemi-custom roof rack for naked roofs, part number SR-1010 on our 2013FordEdge. (song).

Just bought a 2012 Edge with a vista skylight. Ford will not put a roof rack on this vehicle, but I wish to do so. Does this rack fit on an Edge roof which has the skylight. Not sure if the profile of the roofs gutter is the same as the one with a solid roof. Also, I want to carry a ladder, and I want to put the bars as far apart as possible for stability. Do they have to be placed 26 away or can I put them farther away. Please advise

With fixed roof racks like this, the bars should be placed according to the isntructions. Deviating from them could result in a poor fit, reduced holding capacity or even rack failure. The Thule roof rack systems will fit with yoru Vista roof, they use a spread of 27-1/2 inches. Those will be your best bet. You would need the 58 inch square bars, part THLB58, the Traverse Foot Pack, part # TH480 , and the fit kit for your Edge, part # THKIT1530 . You might also want a set of load stops to corral the ladder, part # TH503 .
