How to Install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2017 Lexus RX 350

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2017 Lexus RX 350, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness. So, the trailer wiring is going to provide us with the necessary lighting functions, not only to remain safe but, legal as well. And what a lot of people don't think about is, many different types of light up hitch-mounted accessories like Cargo Carriers and things of that nature actually have the same type of connector. So, this will power those up as well. Now, I have our wiring just secure to these safety chain openings here on our hitch and I kind of like the way it looks. It sits nice and flush next to it and it isn't all that noticeable.

However, they do make brackets that actually connect to your hitch and will permanently mounted outside here.I tried that and how the hitch sets just didn't look that great honestly, I think this way, it looks a lot better. It's really easy to use too. Whenever we're ready to use it, we can just take off our cap and pull it out and we got a couple of feet to work with here. Now, this cap that I mentioned is really thick and heavy duty so you shouldn't have to worry about it getting tore up over time if you do secure it to your hitch. But, it's also going to do a great job at keeping out any dirt and debris and moisture.

However, I do recommend, never a bad idea from time to time just to apply some dielectric grease to these terminals and that'll help ensure that they stay in great shape. That's something I do want to point out is, some Lexus' have a factory tow package plug and others do not.And there's two different types of wiring to accommodate for both of those types of vehicles. In our case, our Lexus did have the factory tow package plug and to figure out if yours does, it's going to be pretty easy. If you look up underneath the car, kind of right behind the bumper here in this area, you'll see a factory connector. So, if that's there you know you have the factory tow package.

So, at the end of the day, this wiring is going to make you feel much safer whenever you're pulling your trailer down the road and is a super convenient way to power up those lights and that's because it more or less just plugs in. The installation is so easy, I really think anyone should be able to do it. Speaking of which let's go ahead and put it on together now. To begin our installation, we're going to be working underneath the back of our Lexus and we need to locate the factory connector plug. So, it's going to be right here in this area just behind our bumper. So, if we look right here, this is our factory connector.

Now, that's going to have a little plastic cap on it just to keep dirt and debris out and we need to take that off. On the backside there's a tab you can push and pull out to remove that cap. So, this is the cap and right there in the center is that tab that you're going to push down on. When you're pushing down, you're able to pull it off. So, we don't need this anymore, we'll set it off to the side. Then we can grab our trailer wiring and the connector and it's going to match up at that factory connector and it just gets plugged right in. Since this connection is outside, I do recommend using a little dielectric grease. You can find that here at etrailer and just put it over those terminals, that'll help keep them protected. So from there, this is just going to line up with that connector and plug right in. So, I went ahead and routed and secured our wiring and I just brought it along through here. I used a couple of zip ties to secure it to this bumper tab.And I just continued towards the center of her vehicle, where I dropped it down and connected it to the hitch. Now that we have everything hooked up, it's a good idea to test our wiring and make sure that it is working properly. I'm using this little tester here and you can find that right here at etrailer. With that being said, I'll use my left turn, my right turn, my running lights and my brake lights. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on our 2017 Lexus RX 350.
