How to Install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2019 GMC Acadia

Rob: Hey, everybody, Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness for factory tow packages on our 2019 GMC Acadia. Now our wiring is going to provide us with a four pole flat trailer connector, so we have all the required lights to get onto the road safely and securely. It's going to give us our taillight function, turn signals, and our stoplights. We went ahead and mounted our four pole wiring to this bracket here. Now the bracket is not going to come with a wiring, but I always like to put it on a bracket because it just gives it a cleaner look and it's really easily accessible when we hook up to our trailer. Our wiring is going to give us a dust cover so we can keep all that dirt, debris and grime out of there when we're not using it because it is designed to stay on the outside of the vehicle at all times. As far as the installation goes, it's going to be extremely easy. We're not going to have to cut or splice into anything.

She's going to have a simple connector that's going to be behind the bumper up top. But now that we've seen the end results for our wiring, let's show you how we got it hooked up. We want to come to the back of our Acadia. Now we already have our hitch installed, so we have that trap door removed. If yours is there, you're going to want to pull out the two bolts and pull that panel down.

And we're going to come to the inside, just right here. If we reach up, we can find our factory tow package wiring. So the four pole wiring for our factory tow package is going to be pretty far up on the body, but you can see it right here on the little red tab on it. You can reach up, you should be able to slide the wiring off of the clip that it's connected to. Then we can pull it down so we can access it a little bit easier. You want to slide that red tab back and then we're going to press down on the little gray tab so we can separate the dummy plug.

We'll grab our new wiring harness and the plug on the end of it is going to match the one in our vehicle. So we'll plug it in.We'll hear that click. Then you want to slide that red tab back, make sure it's locked into place. Now we can take our plug, we can actually reach back up and slide it back onto the clip. Maybe a little bit difficult, but there's a little track on the back of the plug.

You just want to slide it into place. Make sure that it's secure up there because we don't want our wiring to be hanging down.Once you have your plug reattached up top we want to route our four pole wire down towards our hitch, and we went ahead and had a bracket mounted up, it's going to give it a little bit cleaner of a look and easier to access. But if you don't use a bracket, you can take your four pole connector and we'll take the dust cover, we can use it to attach to the hitch here. You just want to tie up the excess wire.If you are a four-pole bracket, you want to make sure the dust covers open. We'll take our four pole, we're going to slide it through, and then those little tabs on top are going to grab onto it. So you kind of want to work it into the bracket until it's nice and snug and then you can see even if I push on it, it's not going to push its way through. So now we'll just take a couple zip ties and tie up our excess wire either to the hitch or up high enough to where it's not going to be in the way.The final step of our installation is going to be testing our wiring, make sure the circuit works properly. So I plugged in my four pole tester and you can pick one up here at etrailer.com using part number I26. But you can see if I turn on my headlights then my tail light function is working, as well as the left turn signal, the right turn signal and my brakes. Now that we know that everything's working, all we have left to do is hook up to our trailer and hit the road. Now that everything's hooked up, that'll finish up your installation and look at the Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness for factory tow packages on our 2019 GMC Acadia.
