How to Install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2020 GMC Acadia

Hi there Acadia owners. Today on your 2020 GMC Acadia, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install to Tekonsha's T-One four-pole flat vehicle wiring harness. It is designed to live outside the vehicle and you can use your dust cap to secure it to your safety chain loop, keep it up off the road. There are zip ties included. You can further tie up your wiring if you don't want as much length as we have here. And you can also get brackets that we have available here etrailer.com so you can have a more permanent mounting solution.

There's plenty of different four-pole brackets, as well as long and short brackets to give you easy mounting locations without having to drill into the vehicle. Our connector here is going to provide you with all of your necessary lighting, which includes your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, which will keep you DOT compliant in all States. And my favorite part about this harness is how easy it is to install. It's just a simple four-pole wiring like you have here, with our four-pole flat at one end, and on the other end, we have a custom fit connector that's designed for our Acadia that plugs directly into our factory harness just up here right behind the bumper. It only takes a matter of minutes to get it installed, and our circuitry is going to be protected by our vehicle's existing trailer circuitry, so there are fuses and relays already installed in your vehicle for your trailer wiring, so if you do have any faults that would occur, it'll just open those fuses for these specific circuits here. You can find that in your owner's manual and replace them as necessary if you do have a fault on your trailer. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and install it together.

It's a really quick, super easy installation. We'll begin our installation underneath the vehicle here at the back, slightly on our driver's side, but close to the center, our connectors are going to be located just straight up. So I'll be going in here next to our hitch, and we're going to be heading slightly over towards the driver's side, and it's located on the metal panel up here. Now from here, I would just pull the connector down so we can pop it down and then it'll make it a little easier to work with. We'll need to disconnect the dummy plug that's located in it.

There is a red locking tab that we'll need to push over to do that. So we'll just push that tab over and then we can press in on the release lever behind it, and then separate the two. It can be quite stiff when separating the two pieces. We can now take our new harness. We're going to plug it into our factory connector, making sure that they click together, and then we'll push our red locking tab back down, and then we can hook our factory connector back into the little mounting location that we've pulled it down from. Now that we've got it installed, there are some zip ties included.

You can zip tie your wiring to keep it cleaner if you'd like. One of the things I like to do is take the dust cap and run it around my hitch pin loop. One of the things I like to do is take my. One of the things I like to do is take my dust cap, run it around my safety chain hoop on the bottom there, and then we can just clip it in to the connector and that'll hold it up off the road.So now we need to test everything out to make sure it's working properly, so I'm just going to remove our dust cap there. We have a tester here. We're going to plug into our four-pole, and I highly recommend using a tester over your trailer, because if you have a fault on your trailer and things aren't working properly, you don't know if it's the trailer or the vehicle, but if we plug our tester in here and everything works, then we know that our vehicle's fine and vice versa. We know that it's testers not working here, we got an issue with our vehicle. You'll want to make sure you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. With everything working properly, ready to load up our trailer and hit the road. And that completes our installation of Tekonsha's T-One four-pole flat vehicle wiring harness on our 2020 GMC Acadia..
