How to Install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder

Hi there, safety conscious haulers. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Tekonsha's T-1 4-pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness. It provides us with a 4-pole flat trailer connector at the back of our vehicle. To keep us DOT compliant in all states by providing the lighting signals, which includes our left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. And since this harness is designed to live outside the vehicle, there is an included dust cap, which will keep out any dirt, debris, and moisture to ensure a long lasting connection. And can also be used to wrap around your safety chain loop to keep it up off the road, and prevent it from getting any damage. What's cool about this harness is that it plugs directly into our factory connector.

So there's no cutting or slicing, or anything. We simply just take our harness and plug it into the factory connector on the inside of the vehicle for our relay, and then we have another harness here that we plug in here at the back. You'll receive all the relays and harnesses that you need to get everything installed on your vehicle. A couple of those relays install underneath the hood here at the front, underneath this box here. And you may find that your vehicle already has these installed, so it just depends on the options. So some of them may not be used, and you'll have a little bit left over.

No big deal.So if you are planning on hauling with your Pathfinder, maybe taking a camper with you to the weekend, this is going to be a great option to ensure that you have your lighting signals to keep you and your family safe. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go over the installation together, so you can have the confidence to do it at home. We'll begin our installation at the back of the vehicle. You will want to lay your third row seats down, if you don't already have them down. And then we can lift up on our cover here. And there are three bolts inside that we're going to need to take out to move our cover out of the way.

We're going to use a 10 mm socket to remove the three. There's one in each corner towards the front, and one in the middle towards the back.We now need to take the threshold off so we can get it up. This just simply pulls up. We just grab it and give it a little tug. We'll just set that aside.

And down below here, we're going to have four clips. And those will just pop up. You can either use a flat bladed screwdriver, or a trim panel remover tool. Just slide it underneath and then just pop the clip up. Just work your way down until all four of them have been released. With all of them released, we can lift up on our center compartment here. Once we've got it pulled up, we can just roll it forward, and it'll just sit out of our way. The panel on our driver side now needs to come up and get out of our way. So we're going to first pop up the small covers here, that reveal our bolts underneath. We're going to do the same thing with the other cover over here. Sometimes, if you can't get it, you can lift up on that and then you can get the cover to pop up. Then you have to kind of set it back down for it to clear, to get it to come up the rest of the way. We'll just take these out with our 10 mm. And you'll see that there are two more clips here that's holding this whole panel in. We'll use our trim panel or screwdriver again to pop those up. And we can just set this panel aside. So here we have our new harness that we're going to be plugging into that connector. This is the white connector, the one could see in the last shot. Right next to it there is a black connector that's real small, that one will plug into. That one's very difficult to see, and you likely couldn't see it in that last shot. But it's right there. So once you plug this one in, just feel over towards the center of the vehicle a little bit, and you'll find this one just slightly up a little bit higher. We're going to go into the large opening here, and reach back to our connectors. Sometimes it's a little easier if you just get the whole harness tucked in there, so it's not getting caught on anything. Now, with both ends of our harness plugged into the vehicle, we can plug our relays in the other end. We're going to have two blue ones and one brown one. Match the brown up with color that it goes to. It's also the only shape that it'll fit into, so you really can't get these wrong.Just want to look at the bottom just to line up the prongs with the connector, and plug them in. Also, included with your kit, you're going to receive some small foam pads. For demonstration purposes, we're not going to be putting them on. But all you would do is peel off the adhesive backing here, and just wrap it around your relays like this. This will help ensure that they're not rattling around and making a bunch of noise and it does also adhere the relay to the connector to help ensure that it stays secure. We're now underneath the hood on the driver side. We're just behind the headlight assembly. Our battery's right here, and then just to the outside of our battery we have our little relay boxes here. This small rectangular one here's the one we're looking for. There's a release tab down here at the bottom. Just pull outward, then you can pop it up, and we can slide this off. Now, our relays we're already pre-installed from the factory. If you don't have relays here, you'll want to make sure that you install the relays that come included with your kit.If you've already got relays there, then you're all good to go. And we can just clip our cover back on. We're now underneath the vehicle on the passenger side. Just above our hitch here, you'll find your electrical connector for your harness down below. The easiest thing to do with this, is to use a pair of needle nose pliers, and pinch the end back here. And this will allow us to pop the connector out of its little holding spot there. We're just going to pinch that, then we can just push it on out.Now that we've got it released, we can just bring it down further where we can easily access it. We're going to remove the dummy plug that's located in it. So there is a release tab right here, we're going to press in on it, it's pretty small so you may need a screwdriver, something to press in on that release tab. Then you can just slide that dummy plug right out of it. We can now take our 4-pole harness and plug it into our connector. It just simply slides in.And then we do have a ring terminal here that we do need to attach to ground. And we're just going to use the included self-tapping screw to do so. We're just going to slide the self-tapping screw to the ring terminal, and then use a 1/4 inch socket to run it down. We can now work our harness over towards our hitch, and secure it to the hitch with the included zip ties. You may need to use two zip ties together, kind of like I've got here, to make them long enough to wrap around the wiring to secure it to the hitch. Any access wiring you have, we can just zip tie that up out of the way. We've gone ahead and plugged in our tester now before we put everything back together, just to make sure everything's working properly. You can get a tester like this here at etrailer.com. You want to make sure you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. And with everything working properly, we can reassemble the back of our vehicle, and zip tie up any loose wiring that we have. And we're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of Tekonsha's T-1, 4-pole flat trailer connector vehicle wiring harness on our 2019 Honda HRV.
