How to Install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2017 Acura MDX

Hi there, MDX owners. Today on our 2017 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Tekoncha's T-One vehicle wiring harness. And this is what our wiring looks like when it's installed. It's designed to live inside your vehicle, and when you're ready to use it, it simply drapes off the back.It pinches between the weather stripping on your vehicle, which won't cause any damage to the harness and holds it nice in place. This will provide you with all of your necessary lighting, which includes your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps, keeping you DOT compliant in all states. When not in use, we simply store it in our rear compartment. You can fold up your wiring.

I like to use the included dust cap to keep everything in place. You can wrap it around your wiring here. One of the things that I like about this harness is that it has a module that monitors all of your lighting signals on your vehicle, and the module then produces those signals and sends them to your four pole connector. What's nice about this is that if there's any faults on your trailer wiring, the module, detect those shorts and it will close down that circuit. In the event the module is unable to close it down in time, our module does have its own fuse in line, which will open to ensure that no damage occurs to the wiring on your vehicle. The module can produce up to 4.2 amps on the stop, turn circuits, which is more than enough for even your larger trailer's lighting.

And 7.5 amps on your tail lamp circuits, which again is plenty of lighting for any of your larger trailers. If you want to add some more lights, you should be okay with this module. So whether you're just using this to power the lights on your cargo carrier or the lights on your trailer, it's going to be a great option for you. We'll begin our installation at the back of the vehicle. We'll open up our lift gate to access the back. Then we're going to need to remove our compartment here at the rear.

So we'll just lift up on the cover, grab the small fabric piece there, and you can just pull the insert out. And then we'll remove our cover located here. Our module is going to plug in there and we can route it around the small opening here. So we'll simply take our connector end off of our harness. We're going to push it back through here and just feed it over, across. And we're going to plug our connector in right there. We'll now need to insert the fuses that come with our kit into the slots here on our fuse panel.

We're going to be using the larger fuse that comes in our kit and putting it here. And then we're going to pick the smaller fuse that comes in our kit and we're going to place that in slot number 11, which is going to be here. First one we put in slot number two. We'll now attach our ground wire to the ground stud located here. We'll take our ground wire, put the bolt through it, and then just re-install the bolt. We'll now take the adhesive backing that comes with our kit. We're going to place it onto our module. Remove the other side of the backing. We're just going to stick it right here above our factory harness. You want to hold it there for about 20, 25 seconds to ensure good adhesion. Can now unwrap your harness. We're just going to hang it out the back for now. You can reinstall your panel, put your rear compartment back in, and then our harness here, you can just wrap up and store it into your rear compartment when not in use. When you are going to use it, you'll just drape it down over the back and you can just shut the lift gate and it'll pinch between the weatherstripping. Make sure you avoid the striker here in the middle whenever you're using your four pole connector. Now that our installation is complete, this is a great time to test it out. So we're going to go ahead and drape it over the back and then shut our lift gate. To test out your wiring, you'll either want to plug it into your trailer or into a tester like we have here. If you need a tester, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com. You'll want to make sure you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. With everything working properly, we're ready to button up our wiring and hit the road. And that completes our installation of Tekonsha's T-One vehicle wiring harness on our 2017 Acura MDX.
