Review of the Thule Roof Basket on a 2015 Toyota Highlander

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Thule Canyon XT roof-mounted cargo basket, part number TH859XT. This cargo basket is a step up from your entry level baskets. It features an aerodynamic fairing, so not only is it going to be stylish, but it's going to provide you with a smooth and quiet ride. It has a wedge-shaped design that's going to make loading and unloading your cargo easy, and the attachment points come with a cover, so our hardware cannot be tampered with. And you also have the option to lock the covers with the Thule locking cores, sold separately with part number TH544, and each cover locks. Its overall dimensions are 49 inches long by 40 inches wide, and it's 6 inches deep at the tallest point. So you're going to have more than enough room for your cargo.

Not only is it going to free up more space inside your Highlander for more passengers and pets, but it's also going to allow you to keep that wet, soiled, and damp gear out of your Highlander. The tubular design is going to provide you with plenty of attachment points for securing your cargo, whether you're using a strap or a hook design. The Thule Canyon has a weight capacity of 150 pounds, though you want to be sure and check with your Highlander's owner's manual to see if your roof can carry that much. Now, the Thule Canyon has a very easy installation. It's going to come with plenty of hardware to work with either your round, square, arrow, elliptical on most factory roof rack systems. On our Highlander here, it's equipped with a factory roof rack system, so we're going to be using the smallest clamp that's included with our Thule Canyon. Now, I've already got three of the clamps installed.

Let's go ahead and do the last one together. It's a good idea to measure and position your feet on your Thule Canyon before you place the basket on your roof. That way, they're all set up when you finally put it in place. Once you've gotten this far, you can go ahead and take your clamp. We're going to come underneath and come up through the two elongated slots here.

We can hold it in place with one hand and then put on our flat washers. Then, we can begin putting on our hand knobs. Now, just go ahead and tighten these down until they make contact with the foot, and then you can tighten them down evenly. And that'll ensure a nice, secure fit. Once they're in place, it's not going anywhere. We can then take our cover to hide our hardware.

We've got a little notched out hole there. That's going to come on one side of our foot just like that, and then we can swing the other side over into place and then lock it up just like that. And then, we're all set. And that's going to complete our test fit on the Thule Canyon XT roof-mounted cargo basket, part number TH859XT, on our 2015 Toyota Highlander.
