Review of the Thule Doubletrack Hitch Bike Rack on a 2008 Subaru Outback

Today in our 2008 Subaru Outback we're going to be test fitting the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style Bike Carrier, product number TH990XT. One quick note about this bike rack, it will fit both 1-1/4 and 2-inch hitches class 1 through 3 compatible. With our bike rack preassembled and set up for the 2-inch hitch we're ready to go ahead and fit it to the vehicle. And we'll begin by inserting the bike rack shank into the hitch. We'll line up the hitch pin hole and insert our anti-rattle bolt installed we'll go ahead and tighten it down using a wrench and with the anti-rattle bolt tight our bike rack is secured to the vehicle and we're ready to begin loading it up. At this point, we're going to give you a few measurements.

It looks like we have about 10-1/2 inches of ground clearance. Also, we have 1-1/2 from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle. We'll now go ahead and fold the platform down and open the cargo door. And as you can see, we can gain full access to the rear cargo area. We'll now go ahead and get the bike rack ready to load a bike.

We'll extend the vertical bar with clamps out as far as they'll go. We'll also make sure that the wheel mount straps are out of the way. And with that we can go ahead and set our bike into the wheel mounts. We'll bring the vertical bar clamp up and clamp it to the top bar of our bike. With that secured, we can move on to the wheel mounts.

We're bringing the wheel mount straps through the wheel and clamp them down securing the bike to the bike rack. And with those few easy steps our bike's loaded up and we're ready to hit the road. And that completes our test fit of the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style Bike Carrier, product number TH990XT on our 2008 Subaru Outback.
