Review of the Thule Doubletrack Hitch Bike Rack on a 2012 Toyota RAV4

Today on our 2012 Toyota Rav4 we're going to be test fitting the Thule double track platform style bike carrier, part number TH990XT. To mount our carrier to our vehicle will insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. We'll line up our hitch pinhole, thread down our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. Finally we'll secure the bolt with a lock on the other side. Now we'll go over a handful of clearance measurements. We've got about 10-1/2 inches of ground clearance and about 1-1/2 inches of clearance from the closest part of the carrier to the closest part of the vehicle.

Overall added about 9-1/2 inches of length to the rear of our vehicle with the carrier folded up. Next we want to check for rear vehicle access. We use the switch at the base of the carrier to fold it down flat. We can open the cargo door just a little bit before it makes contact with one of our wheel cradles. Now we'll put the upright mast up and prepare to load a bike.

We're going to make sure that the frame hooks are extended all the way up and that the wheel straps of the cradle are also open. We'll pick up our bike, place it in the cradles and secure it first using a ratcheting frame hook. Then we'll move back and use the wheel straps to secure the front and rear wheels of our bicycles. With that done we're all loaded up and ready to hit the road. That's it for our test fit of the Thule double track platform style carrier part number TH990XT on our 2012 Toyota Rav4.
