Review of the Thule Hitching Post Pro Hitch Bike Rack on a 2012 Toyota RAV4

Today on our 2012 Toyota Rav4 were going to be test fitting the Thule hitching post pro, hitch mounted bike carrier, part number TH934XTR. To mount our carrier to our vehicle, well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up our hitch pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. Next well go over a handful of clearance measurements,. weve got about 10.5 of ground clearance and about 7 of clearance between the closet part of the carrier and the closest part of our vehicle. Overall weve added about 17 of length to the rear of our vehicle with the carrier arms folded down.

We do also want to make sure that we can access our cargo areas even with the bike rack installed. To do this well remove the pin at the base of the bike rack and tilt it down. Well open our hatch door and make sure we can get to the area even with our bike rack on. Now well put the bike rack back up and prepare to load a bike. Well remove the pin at the top of the carrier to fold the arms out.

Well open the rubber straps on the cradle closest to the vehicle and then we can grab our bike. Well fit it over the arms of the carrier and down into the cradles. Well then use the straps to secure the frame of the bicycle. With that done our bike is all loaded up and were ready to hit the road. Thats it for our test fit of the Thule hitching post pro hitch mounted bike carrier, part number TH934XTR on a 2012 Toyota Rav4..

Most hanging style bike racks require the use of an adapter bar to accommodate women's and kid's bike frames that don't have the horizontal top tube like you see on a standard men's bike. There are a few hanging style racks that are designed with the arms closer to help eliminate the need for the adapter bar but even then sometimes it is still necessary. I am linking our selection of adapter bars below that you can check out and use with the Thule Hitching Post Pro.
