Review of the Thule Sonic XXL Rooftop Cargo Box on a 2014 XV Crosstrek

Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're going to be test fitting the Thule Sonic XXL Rooftop Cargo Box. This offers us 21 cubic feet of storage space. Comes in metallic silver. Its part number is TH636S. We've got the Thule Rapid Crossroads Roof Rack System already installed on the Subaru so we're going to begin our test fit by placing our cargo box right up onto our load bars. With the feet being exposed out of the bottom of the box, we found this is the best time to go ahead and get them lined up so they're going to fit around our bars. With all four of our feet going around our bars there, we'll take a quick look to be sure we have the box centered.

That looks good. We'll then come here to the passenger side and open it up. When we reach in here we've got two foot packs that are located on this side. They're equipped with an AcuTight knob. As you tighten them down we're going to hear them click when we have the proper torque applied.

That one's nice and secure; you heard by the audible clicks. We'll now move here to the rear and tighten this one down until it clicks as well. A great feature of the Sonic XXL is its ability to open from both the passenger and the driver side. Now that we've got our passenger side secure, let's make our way around to the driver side. We'll open that side up and we'll tighten the two foot packs that we've got here. As you can see on the foot pack here, Thule uses a nice strip to help seal off the bottom of the box.

That's going to prevent water and moisture, snow, dirt, stuff like that from getting up into our box and onto our cargo. With all four foot packs secure, all we've got left to do now is load it down with some gear. Let's go to the rear hatch and open it up just to make sure we've got clearance there. As you can see, with our box mounted in the forward position there, it does give us all the room we need to get our hatch open. We've got some footage of the box going down the road so we can let you see what it looks like in action. That's going to complete today's test fit of the Thule Sonic XXL Rooftop Cargo Box, part number TH636S, on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek.
