How to Install the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars on a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Collin: Hey guys, it's Collin here at etrailer. Today we have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. We're going to do a test fit of the Thule WingBar Evo roof rack system. Now this is a roof rack system that mounts to the raised side rails of your Crosstrek. It's going to allow you to get your favorite accessories loaded up on your roof, whether you got a bike rack, a cargo box, or even a kayak carrier. The roof rack is going to have 53" long WingBar Evo crossbars.

These are in black right now, but are also available in silver. Just see etrailer if that's something you're interested in.They're going to have a nice aerodynamic shape to them. It's going to help cut down on wind noise and drag when you're traveling. We can access the T-track inaudible 00:00:39 by flipping over that end cap and instead of the old aero blade bars where you had to pull them out and then cut them to length for your T-slot accessories, you just take your bolts and then slide it between the two strips to where ever you want to place your accessory, tighten it down. Then you're going to be good to go. Now we're going to have our Evo clamp feet connecting our crossbars to our raised side rails.

This is going to have a nice rubber coating all the way around the clamp to make sure it doesn't harm or scratch the finish of your side rails. It's basically a clamp on system so it goes around and grips just like that. We'll take the end cap off. We see we have the tightening bolt right here that we use to secure it. When we put the end cap back on, we're going to see we have a plastic lock right there.

We can actually replace that with a Thule lock core, which are sold separately here at etrailer. That's just going to provide more security for your roof rack and they do come in a pack of four. So you can get one for each end cap of your roof rack. Now I do want to provide you guys with a few measurements just to give you an idea of this space this might take up. First, from the top of our roof to the bottom of our WingBar. That's going to be 3-1/4".

Now that's going to be plenty of space to get any clamp on accessories under your crossbar without risking damaging the top of your roof. Now we're going to go from the top of our roof to the top of our WingBar. That's going to be 4-1/4", which is something to keep in mind from the low clearance situations that you have added that height to your roof. We're also going to have a weight capacity of 220 pounds with this WingBar set up, which is a step up from their previous aero blade bars, but double check with your Crosstrek's owner's manual and make sure that your roof can handle that weight. Now I'll show you how to assemble and install your roof rack. We have the front crossbars assembled and installed. It's going to be the same process for the back one. Real quick, I want to point out how I got the front one installed. All I did was I measured from a certain point on my raised side rail, went back to the edge of my foot, made it even on both sides and then I tightened it down not. Now to assemble it, like I said, it's going to be very easy. We just flip it over. We're going to take the end cap off of the side. Just push down on that knob and pull the end cap out. Now we'll grab our Evo raised rail foot. Make sure that notch gets into the track, just like that. Push it in, put the end cap back on. Now we're ready to get it on the roof. Now we'll just get it onto our raised side rails. There's no inaudible 00:03:12. You got to put it right now. What we're going to do before we start to tighten it down, is measure our crossbar spread to make sure we get it even. Now what we're going to do is measure from the front of our front WingBar to the front of our back one. There's no set measurement. You just need to make sure it's at least 24". You can base it off of whatever accessory you might be hauling that day. I'm just going to choose a nice round number. If you wanted to, you could also just use a point. So you could just line up the edge of your foot with the edge right here on both sides if you don't have a tape measure on hand, but it is always good to measure both sides. Now with our included tool, you can go and tighten down the bolts of our Evo clamp feet. I've already gone ahead and done the other side. So as you feel it get tighter, the tool is actually going to let you know when it's tight enough. It's going to give you a couple of loud clicks right there letting you know that it's tight enough. So now we can just grab our end cap and put it on, and now we're ready to load up our favorite Thule accessories and then hit the road.Thank you all for watching. That's going to do it for our test fit of the Thule WingBar Evo roof rack system on our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.
