How to Install the TorkLift Front Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs on a 2003 Ford F-350

Today on our 2003 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Torklift Custom Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs, part number TLF2011. Now here's what our Torklift Custom Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs look like in action. Now as you can see here we're a little short to reach to our bracket. One way to take up the extra distance is to use a quick link like this. Just simply slide through, tighten it down, go ahead and open the handle back up and we'll come down here to where our anchor point is. We then can go ahead and hook it down here on our D-ring. Once that's hooked we can go ahead and close the handle down so that it snaps into position.

Now let's go ahead and begin our installation. Now we're going to begin over here on the passenger's side. Here's what the bracket looks like that will be secured to the vehicle's frame and it will be located in the position right here. Next we're going to need to take these hook brackets, there will be one on top and bottom of the frame and on the topside, we're going to need to take the 1/2 inch by 4 inch long bolt. We'll slide it through the bracket like that and then we'll hook it from the inside of the frame so that it sits out like this. Now here on the bottom, we'll again use one of the hook brackets but this time we'll be using a 1/2 inch by 3 3/4 inch long bolt. We'll again put it through and it will slide onto the frame. Next we'll go ahead and take the bracket here, we'll slide it over each of the bolts.

We'll then install two of these flat washers, 1/2 inch lock washer and 1/2 inch Hex nut on each of the bolts. We'll just put them hand tight for now. Next we're going to need to install the hardware in this forward mounting location here. The hardware we're going to be using is a 1/2 inch by 2 inch bolt. We'll be then installing a 1/2 inch star washer, the 1 inch place so that it looks like that.

We'll then go through the cab mount bracket, we'll then install another 1 inch plate followed by a flat washer, a lock washer and finally a Hex nut. We'll go ahead and just put this hand tight for now as well until we get the bracket into the position we want. Next we're going to need to go ahead and tighten down the hardware. Then we'll torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Now that we have the bracket secured to the vehicle's frame, the tie down insert for the passenger's side will normally look like this with the bracket going forward but if your vehicle has factory tube steps or running boards installed when you slide it in to line up the pin holes you'll see that it actually hits. In this case, you'll actually need to change and insert the driver's side insert into the passenger's side.

As you can see here now we have clearance between the running board and tube step. Now you can see here in our insert, we can either adjust it to this inner hole or you can use this hole here and this will allow the bracket to be adjusted either farther out from the vehicle or farther in. Once you have you insert adjust, you'll take the pin and clip, after the holes are lined up, you go through both holes, slide the clip piece around the pin and your insert installed. Now over here on the driver's side. We're going to use this hole right here as our third attachment point for the bracket. Now in order to get our hardware in there, we're going to use this bolt leader or fish wire that comes with the kit, go ahead and take the end of our bolt leader or fish wire, we'll feed it into the mounting location. We'll then pull it out underneath. We'll go ahead and take a 1/2 inch by 2 inch long Hex bolt, another star washer and our 1 inch plate block. We'll then go ahead and feed it onto the end of the fish wire or bolt leader. We'll then go ahead and work the hardware up inside the frame here, take the pull wire pull the bolt, the square block and the star washer into position. Now you want to keep the bolt leader or fish wire on the bolt until we get the side plate up into position. Next we're going to need to install the upper and lower clamp like we did over on the passenger's side. Again we'll be using the 1/2 inch by 4 inch long bolt in the bracket or clamp up on the topside of the vehicle's frame. Now here on the underside of the frame, we'll again be using this type of bracket and 1/2 inch by 3 3/4 inch long bolt. Now in order to get it to slide into position, you'll need a wrench or something to just move the gas tank out of the way just a little bit. You'll slide it into position like that. You'll notice the dimple here in the gas tank. Here's the driver's side bracket. Go ahead and take our fish wire, we'll go through this hole right here. We'll also go up underneath the emergency brake cable. Now when you are installing the side bracket here, as you're feeding it onto each of the bolts, you'll also need to work the emergency brake cable through each of the slots so that it sits into position. Now that we have all the bolts through the side bracket, we can go ahead and install the hardware on these two longer bolts. We'll again put two flat washers, a lock washer and a Hex nut on each. We'll then go ahead and remove the pull wire or fish wire from the bolt. We'll then put the spacer block in place followed by a flat washer, a lock washer and finally a Hex nut. Now that we have all of our hardware hand tight, we can go ahead and tighten it down and then torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Now we're ready to install the insert and if you remember when you installed the correct side it actually hits your factory running boards so the insert that we're actually installing here on the driver's side is for the passenger's side. Go ahead and put our pin and clip in and with that, that'll do it for the installation of the Torklift Custom Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs for the front, part number TLF2011, as installed here on our 2003 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab. .
