How to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2008 Ford Expedition

Today on our 2008 Ford Expedition we will be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller. Part number 90195. The first step to installing our brake controller is to remove this panel. To do so there are 3 push fasteners that hold this in place and 3 screws down here at the bottom. With those screws removed and set to the side, gently pull back on the panel, and remove it from the vehicle. For the installation it's not necessary to remove the panel. I went ahead and did just to make sure I didn't damage any other interior parts, because it can be kind of tricky to get a screw driver or your drill in there to install the bracket.

I have pre-drilled the holes that I will use for the mounting bracket. This will be located on the right side of the steering wheel. I will take the kit supplied bracket, put it over the holes that we've pre-drilled and the hardware. These self-tapping screws that we're supplied with the kit as well. With the mounting bracket installed, I go and take the holder for the brake controller, line up the holes on the bracket with the holes on the holder, take the included machine screws, and just throd 01:49 them into place. With our panel off, we'll take the wired harness supplied with the kit and plug it into the factory wiring harness.

With the panel in place with the push fasteners, go ahead and re-install the screws. With the panel completely re-secured back to the vehicle, take our brake controller, the other end of our wiring harness, plug that in, and set the brake controller into place. Now everything's in place. All we have left is the second access wire. We're just going to zip tie this up underneath the dash to one of the factory wiring harnesses. With the trailer connected, we now have power going to our brakes, and our display showing that.

We can set our power here, or we can go to the manual override and send power to the brakes. That will conclude today's installation of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 trailer brake controller part number 90195 on our 2008 Ford Expedition. .
