How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 1999 Ford Ranger

Today's on is 1999 Ford Ranger, we're gonna install part number 13138 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks when installed on the vehicle. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From top of receiver opening, down to the ground, its gonna be 15 and a half inches. From center of a hitch pinhole to the edge of the bumper, its gonna be 3 and a half inches. Now, I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.

Our first step is go ahead and remove the rearmost bumper bracket bolts and J-nuts. We'll also loosen up the bolts going towards the front to give some more room so we can remove the J-nuts. Now, go ahead and tighten up the forwardmost bolts for the bumper brackets and then we'll install our hardware for the hitch. We'll use the hole that we created and there's also a hole for the under frame that we can use. We'll use the carriage bolts and the blocks.

We'll also tape a spacer to the hitch on the forward most fastener. With the hardware installed, we can go ahead and lift up the hitch and put in position. And then we'll go ahead and install the hex nuts on the bottom. We'll tighten the nuts down and then go ahead torque them down as best in the instructions. And with that, we're already finished with our install part number 13138 from Curt, our 1999 Ford Ranger..
