How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2002 Toyota Tundra

All right today on this 2002 Toyota Tundra, we are going to install part number 13184 Curt, this is the trailer hitch receiver class 3. All right this what the hitch looks like once installed on the Tundra. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper comes out to 3 3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground be about 19 3/4 inches. Now we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.

First thing you do is get your truck raised for the hitch, to do that we need to clean out a couple of wield nuts in the frame. We are looking at the driver side here, here is a wield nut and we'll look at the passenger side then here is the other one. Let's spray them down with some lubricant and we'll go ahead and clean out the threads. now to help clean out the threads we are going to be a using a tube brush part number 814092. Clean it out and then use one of the fine thread bolts that comes with the hitch and check the threads. We'll go ahead and try it until we can thread it in easily.

We are done with the driver side, let's do the same thing on the passenger side. We are almost ready to install our hitch. We'll go ahead and show how the hardware works to the hitch. One the inside of the frame will be this block and a 1/2 inch bolt. Go through the frame and then through the hitch and then underneath we'll get another block, a lock washer and then a nut and this is for the connection point closest to the bumper. This is for the wield nut we cleaned out earlier, we'll now get the bolt we used earlier, lock washer and another block.

Just behind it we'll be a hole we have to drill out and the hardware will be actually the same as the one closest to the bumper. Let's go ahead and install our hardware closest to the bumper first and then install our hitch. All right with an extra of hands we'll go ahead and lift the hitch up into position and install the rest of the hardware for our first bolt. Now we'll go ahead and install our hardware and the wield nut. We're done with the driver side, we'll do the same thing on the passenger side. Now at this point we'll go ahead and snug up our hardware.

We're just tightening just enough to take out the slack. We need to drill a hole here, our hitch we'll serve us a template. I'd like to mark the center of the hole with a 1/2 inch drill bit first. Then do our pile hole and then go back at it with a 1/2 inch drill bit. All right both holes are drilled out, let's go ahead and install the rest of our hardware. Okay with all our hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten them down for good and wrench. Then we'll torque the bolt downs as specified instructions. Okay with that, that we'll finish it for our install part number 13184 from Curt the two inch receiver hitch on our 2002 Toyota Tundra. .
