How to Install a Front Mount Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado New Body

Today on our 2007 Chevy Silverado new body style, we'll be installing the Curt Front Mount Hitch, part number 31322. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch man hole to the the outer most edge of the front bumper is eight inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is ten and a half inches. Now let's go ahead with installation. To begin our install we'll first go ahead and locate attachment points.

Here on the driver's side, we'll be reusing the manufacturer's hardware for the upper two attachment points and lower two attachment points. Here on the passenger side, we'll have a total of three attachment points. Once again we'll reuse the manufacturer's hardware. Now note, here on the driver's side the fastener goes through the front inaudible 00:58 will need to be turned around so the the bolts is facing the inside of the frame. We'll remove the nut on the outside of the frame, remove the bolt and feed it from the outside of the frame towards the inside.

We'll set the nut aside for installation later. Now with the hardware loosened or removed here on the driver's side, on the passenger's side we'll need to remove the two 14 millimeter twin bolts as they are connected together and turn them around so they are facing the inside of the frame as well. We'll remove the nuts on the outside of the frame, remove the two bolts, and then reinstall them from the outside facing in. Now, with all our hardware loosened or removed, we are ready to go ahead and install the front brackets. On the driver's side we'll install the front bracket over the hardware then reinstall the three nuts and bolt to secure the bracket to the frame. We just install the hardware finger tight at this time leaving it loose as we might need to make adjustments as we install the center support brace. Next, we'll move over to the passenger's side repeating the same process of reinstalling the manufacturer's hardware to secure the side bracket to the frame.

Now we are ready to install the front cross member. We are going to take the cross member and hold it up into position. We'll be using a seven sixteenth carriage bolt and plunge nut supplied with their install kit. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you do this so we can use it as a template to mark out the air dam and the section that will need to be cut out for the receiver tube. We'll go ahead and cut it out with a rotary tool. We'll go ahead and install the cross member using the carriage bolt and plunge nuts provided.

Once again, we'll install these fasteners finger tight. Now with the cross members secured to the side brackets, we'll need to install the hardware for the rear strap. To secure this attachment point, we'll be using a half inch carriage bolt and plunge nut, two flat washers and a hardened over washer to fit into the predrilled hole of the front axle. To get our hardware into place, we use the half inch bolt leader provided. We'll take the bolt leader, fit it through the front strap then we'll go ahead and install the two flat washers and the hardened steel overwasher. We then take our bolt leader, fit it though the attachment point of the front axle and out the access hole of the frame. There we can thread on the half inch carriage bolt, fit it into the frame and pull it into position. Once we pull it down through the washers and through the hitch strap, we can secure it with a plunge nut. Now with all our fasteners installed, we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next we'll torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured and torqued specifications, we are ready to hit the road and this will complete the install of the Curt Front Mount Hitch part number 31322 on our 2007 Chevy Silverado. .
