How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Honda Pilot

Today on our 2008 Honda Pilot well be installing Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75599. Now, before we begin our installation, heres what your hitch will look like on the vehicle. Well go ahead and give you a few measurements to help assist you when selecting accessories, such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper is three and a half inches, and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 16 inches. Now lets go ahead with our install. Weve already gone ahead and removed our spare tire from the vehicle.

Were ready to remove the tow hook from the drivers side of the vehicle. Well set the hook off to the side as we will not be reinstalling it on the vehicle. Well now need to lower the exhaust by removing the three rubber muffler hangers. Its a good idea to go ahead and support the exhaust with a safety strap before you remove the rubber muffler hangers. After undoing the rubber muffler hangers, we can lower the exhaust by undoing the safety strap and allowing the exhaust to come down slowly.

With the exhaust lowered, were now ready to point out the attachment points. Here on the passengers side, there will be three weld nuts. On the drivers side it is the same. Well clean these nuts out by using a spray lubricant and a nylon tube brush, part number 814092. Its always good to go ahead and run your hardware up before installing the hitch just to make sure that the threads are completely cleaned out.

This will make it easier to install the hardware when youre holding your hitch in place. Were now ready to put our hitch into position. It would be a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your hardware. The hardware we will be using is the hex bolt and the conical tooth washer, making sure that the teeth of the washer face the hitch. When installing your hardware you want to get it all finger tight, holding the hitch in lace.

After all our hardwares in place we can go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to specification as indicated in the instructions. With all our hardware torqued we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust and remove our safety strap. Now our Honda Pilot has a space saver spare. Youll notice that the spare does not interfere with the hitch whatsoever. That will complete the installation of Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75599 on our 2008 Honda Pilot.
