How to Install a Trialer Hitch on a 2009 Saturn Vue

Today on our 2009 Saturn Vue, we'll be installing Curt Hitch, part number 13594. Now before we begin our installation, here's what your hitch will look like on the vehicle. We'll go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper is 4 inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14-1/4 inches. Now, let's go ahead with our install. To begin our installation, we'll need to lower the exhaust by removing the three exhaust hangers.

We'll first spray the isolators with a lubricant. Once we've sprayed the isolators down, we'll use a prying tool to push the isolator off the hanger, which will allow our exhaust to hang down. We'll now go ahead and point our attachment points. In the frame rail here, you'll see three threaded holes. This is where our hardware will attach.

It's identical on the other side. Now, the hardware we'll be using is the M12x175 hex bolt and the 1/2-inch conical toothed washer. We want to make sure that the teeth of the washer are facing the hitch. We'll slide the washer over the bolt where we can use it to attach our hitch. We'll do this for all six fasteners.

We're now ready to raise the hitch into position. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch up while you install your hardware. With the hitch in position, we'll simply run in all six bolts with the conical toothed washers into position. Once we have all our hardware in place, we can go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to specification as indicated in the instructions. We'll then reinstall our exhaust, which will complete the installation of Curt Hitch, part number 13594, on our 2009 Saturn Vue..
