How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze

Today, on our 2013 Chevy Cruze, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, Part Number 24882. Next, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 3-3/4 inches. From the top of the inside of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-1/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now, let's go ahead with installation.

Before we install the hitch, let's go ahead and point it out the attachment points. We have a total of four attachment points, two on each side. These attachment points will be holes pre-drilled into the frame by the manufacturer. This application does not have a hinge shield to be removed or cut out, so we're ready to go ahead and start installing our hardware into our attachment points. We'll be installing a 716s carriage bolt and block into the frame and then securing the hitch with a conical tooth washer, the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and 716s nut.

We'll use the pole wire to get our hardware into the frame and into position. First, we'll take the pole wire feed it through our rear attachment point and out the forward access hole then we can go ahead and slide the block and thread on our carriage bolt. We'll feed the block and bolt up into the frame and then pull them in to position. We'll leave our pole wire on at this time as it'll make it easier to get a hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back into the frame. Now, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the rear attachment point.

And with the driver's side done, we'll go ahead and move over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. Now, with all our hardware into position, we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll bring the hitch up over the exhaust first and then the passenger side up into position. We'll feed our pole wires through the attachment points in the hitch and then bring the hitch tied to the frame.

We'll remove the pole wire, install the conical tooth washer and then secure it with a nut. Now, with the passenger side done, I'll go over to the driver side and repeat the same process. With all four attachment point hardware in place, we can go ahead and tighten it down then we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instruction. Now, with our hitch secured and torqued to specifications, we're ready to hit the road and that does it for our installation of the Draw-Tite Hitch, Part Number 24882 on our 2013 Chevy Cruze.
