How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder


Today on our 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, well be installing the Curt Hitch, part number C13126. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch.From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper is 2 and three-quarter inches. From the top of the inside of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 14 inches. This will assist you selecting accessory such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier.Now lets go ahead with installation. Note, before we begin the install, weve already gone ahead and lowered and removed the spare tire for the ease in installation of the hitch.

Before we begin our installation, well go ahead and point out the attachment points. Therell be a total of six attachment points for this hitch, three on each side. These attachment points will be well nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer.We can go ahead and remove the manufacturers tow hook. Our next step will be to remove the fascia L bracket. Theres a pushpin fastener and 10 mm bolt for each.

Hang on to both the hardware and the L bracket as we will be reinstalling them. As we raise our hitch into position, put the passenger side up over the exhaust and then bring the drivers side up into position.As we put the hitch into position, youll see where it makes contact with the rear fascia. Well hold it in position and then take a paint marker and mark the area that will need to be trimmed.With the width marked out, well need to go ahead and mark out the length which is provided in the instructions. Go ahead make a mark, draw our lines and then using a rotary zip tool, we'll cut out this section. Now with the fascia cut out, were ready to go ahead and install the hitch.

The fasteners we'll be using for this hitch will be the new 12 mm bolts along with the half inch conical tooth washer, the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. Once again, we'll use an extra set of hands to help us hold the hitch while we install the fasteners. We'll install all six fasteners finger tight to secure the hitch to the vehicle.Next we'll go ahead and tighten down our fasteners and then torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with the hitch secured and torqued to specifications, we can go ahead and reinstall the fascia L bracket. Now with the L brackets re-secured, thatll complete the install of Curt hitch part number C13126 on our 2013 Nissan Pathfinder..

Hey - once the hitch is installed on the 2013 pathfinder, can the spare tired be remounted under the vehicle, or will this no longer be possible?

According to the Curt installation instructions, the spare tire can be re-installed without any interference.
