How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Today on this 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, we're going to install part number 24882 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like once installed on the car. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top to receiver opening, down to the ground, will be about 10 inches. From the hitch-pin hole to edge of bumper will be about 3-3/4 inches. Now we'll show you how the hitch is installed. First thing we need to do is locate the mounting holes. We'll point them out to you.

Use the hole in the frame closest to the bumper. Then there's two holes going towards the front of the car very close together. We'll use the hole that's closest to the front. This will be the same on the passenger side. Now we'll show you how to hardware works with the hitch. There will be a plate or block that will be ran inside the frame along with a carriage bolt.

Bolt it to the frame and then down through the hitch. Once it's through the hitch, we'll install a conical-tooth washer and nut. When you install a conical-tooth washer, you always make sure your teeth are always facing towards the hitch. We're going to install one set of hardware. This will be the same all the way around the hitch. Let's go ahead and install it in the frame.

We'll take our bolt leader, that comes with the kit, and run it through the hole closest to the bumper. Then we'll run a larger hole going toward the front of the car. We'll use that for our access. Then we'll run our bolt leader through our block and push it through the frame, then thread a bolt on. We'll gently pull it through and out the bottom of the frame and up towards the front.

We'll take off our bolt leader and repeat the same process for our next bolt going towards the front of the car. We're done for the passenger side. We'll repeat the same process for our driver's side. Once all our hardware is installed, we can put the hitch up. We'll start off by putting the hitch over the top of the exhaust. That will hold that side for us while we pick up the other side. We'll take our hitch and push it up towards the bolts. Make sure you don't push the bolts into the frame. Then we'll install our conical-tooth washer and nut. We'll install the hardware just far enough to help hold the hitch up. We're done with our passenger side. We'll do the same thing again on our driver's side. Once all our hardware is loosely installed, we'll take a moment to take the hitch and move it back and forth and center it on the frame. We'll hand-tighten the bolts and the torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. With that, our hitch is already installed. With that, that will finish it for Draw-Tite part number 24882 on our 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. .
