How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Ford Flex

Today on our 2014 Ford Flex well be installing the Draw Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 75679. Heres what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now well go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is approximately three inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 14 inches. Now lets go ahead and install our hitch.

To begin our installation were going to install a safety strap on the exhaust. Now with our safety strap in place were going to need to remove three exhaust hangers in order for the exhaust to be lowered down. We have one exhaust hanger over here on the passengers side, one here just in front of where the exhaust Ys out, and one over here on the drivers side. In order to remove the rubber exhaust hangers were going to use a little bit of spray lubricant and a large pry bar. Next were going to need to remove the two bolts that hold this exhaust bracket hanger here on the passengers side.

Now well go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the drivers side. Now the four mounting locations that well be using to install our hitch are the two existing weld nuts on each side, the ones that we just took the bolts out of holding the exhaust bracket in place. To install the new hitch well be using a conical tooth washer and well be using a 12 mm hex bolt. Make sure that when the washer goes on the bolt that the teeth are facing toward the hitch. Now over here on the drivers side well again be using the two existing weld nuts and the 12 mm bolt and conical tooth washer.

Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. When youre putting the hitch up into place youll need to make sure that the exhaust hangers that you removed earlier go in between the bolt and the hitch itself. So youll take a 12 mm bolt, the conical tooth washer and feed it onto the exhaust hanger first and then go through the hitch, and then youll tighten it down into the existing weld nut. Well go ahead and get all four of our mounting locations hand tight, and then well tighten them down and then torque them to the manufacturers specifications. Now with all of our hardware torqued down well go ahead and reinstall the exhaust.

Over here on the passengers side if you make sure that the rubber exhaust hanger is attached up here first it will make it much easier to slide it onto the muffler. Now with our exhaust back up in place we can go ahead and remove the safety strap. That will do it for the installation of our Draw Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 75679 on our 2014 Ford Flex. .
