How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Honda Odyssey

Today on this 2014 Honda Odyssey we are going to install part number C12031 from Curt. This is a Curt trailer hitch receiver class two. This is what the hitch looks like installed on our Odyssey. Next we'll go ahead and give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch can hold to SI edge of the bumper will be about 4 and 1/4 inches. From the top of the receiver opening down to ground will be about 13 and 3/4inches.

Now I will go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. Okay the first thing we need to go ahead and do is to get our Odyssey ready to install the hitch. To do that we had to remove this panel right here on driver side. That will be three plastic fasteners that we had to remove, of course there's a bolt right here we had to remove and a screw side right here. Now we can go ahead and see what a hitch mounts up on our Odyssey. So we'll use these two threaded holes right here and this whole as well. We'll just install some hardware using this as an access hole for this location.

So obviously this is a fairly new vehicle and is protected but it's always still a good idea to go ahead and take one of the hitch bolts and run through the threads to make sure it will fit okay. Before we put the hitch in place, we'll go ahead and show you how the hardware works. We have a inaudible 00:01:33 washer and 1 bolt. When you install it you want to make sure inaudible 00:01:37 in the washer face towards the hitch. In this hole we get the extra hardware which will be this block in this in this carriage hole. We'll use this bolt leader that comes with the kit, we'll thread through the hole we're going to use and then out our access hole. We'll take our block, thread it through into the frame and then we'll go ahead and thread down our bolt.

Then we'll go ahead and pull out the hole we need and then we can go ahead and remove the bolt here. Okay know we can go ahead and install our hitch. We'll take the passenger side and we are just going to lay it on top of the exhaust and we'll go ahead and raise the other side up and then will go ahead and run our boat to hitch and then install a inaudible 00:02:38 nut. That side's stable so we'll move over to our passenger side and go ahead and install the hardware there. All right our hardware is loosely installed on the passenger side and let's go back to your driver's side and do the same thing. Sometimes you'll get a little movement out of it so maybe set her up the best you can.

I'll probably use this edge right here and these two holes to center up with that. And once you're satisfied with the placement we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then we'll torque them down as specified in your instructions. Now this is a panel we removed earlier now you have the option of putting this back up or leaving it off. If you put it back up, it helps to go back and clean out the hole a little bit. All right now use a pretty wide screwdriver without our panel in place because we had to work against the hitch right here. All right with the panel installed that'll finish it for our install of part number C12031 from Curt. The Curt trailer receiver hitch class two on our 2014 Honda Odyssey. .
