How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2015 Ford Transit T150

Today on our 2015 Ford Transit T-150, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver. This offers a 2" opening. It's Part Number is C13193. Here's what the hitch is going to look like once you get it installed on your vehicle. Really easy, no drill kind of installation. All your holes are located there.

You have to run a bolt in and out to make threads, but that's really about it. Nice clean look. Heavy duty look to it as you can see here. We've got that nice large tube. The brackets run right underneath the frame rail there.

Overall really nice looking addition to the back of the vehicle. It'll have a standard 5/8 hitch pin hole. It's going to take all your 5/8 accessories, whether it's immobilizers, locks, anti-rattle devices. You're going to have the collar around here, which will help us with some of the other style of immobilizers as well. Two safety chain brackets on each side. The nice large flange type.

Not just the simple little kind of pieces around metal. They're going to come out and make a little loop. Looks nice and heavy duty. Looks nice and sturdy. You're going to have a 6,000 pound gross trailer weight rating with this hitch and a 900 pound max tongue weight rating.

If you go into weight distribution, you're going to increase that up to an 8,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. We're going to stay with the 900 pound gross trailer, or gross tongue weight. Now, of course, check the transits manual. We want to make sure that this can handle that kind of load. If not, go off of whatever of those numbers are going to be the lowest. Now, a couple of measurements that are going to be helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening. We've got about 15". Then, from the center of hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about 4 1/4. Now, for our installation, we're going to be using three mounting locations on each side. We've got two small weld nuts style sleeves that go up through. We're going to use our self-tapping bolts to create threads in there. We're also going to be pulling a fish wire bolt through our forward mounting location. Now, these are going to be the exact same on the other side. We're going to take a little lubricant. Spray it into our sleeves there. Clean any dirt and debris out of them. This is Part Number 814092 if you don't have a little tube brush at home. Pick that up with your order. You'll have everything you need. Once we've got those cleaned out, you're going to take one of our bolts and we'll push up firmly as we use our socket to get it started. All right, with that one started, we'll grab our other one and get it started. Now we'll just thread these all the way through to create our threads in those sleeves. Then, we can back them out when we're done. Then, we'll pull that out. Let's clean those threads up just like we did before. Now, let's repeat that step for the three remaining bolts that we have. The one here and the two over on the passenger side. All right, so our forward four . Two on this side, two on that side. We've got those tapped out. Those are set. We need to get our final . Our number five and our number six connection point done here at the rear. So, to do that, we've got one of the fish wires that's going to come with your kit. It's going to go right up through our mounting location and right out of the back side. Then, slide on one of the 1/2" spacer blocks. Follow that up with one of our 1/2" carriage bolts. That's going to thread on there just like threading a screw into a nut. Feed them in separately. We'll pull it through just like that. We have our fix wire connected. That can help as a guide to kind of help our hitch up into position. Then, we'll just go over to the passenger side and do that same thing. Now, we're ready to grab our hitch and we can raise it up into position. Now, as we raise this up into position, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands. We're going to use the fix wire and go through that furthest forward hole. Kind of guide it right up into place. Then, let's get one of our bolts started here. That's going to hold this side in place for us while we go over to the driver's side and get one started here as well. With those two installed, that's going to take care of kind of holding it up in place for us. Now, we'll back the wire off of our carriage bolts in the front side there. These are going to get one of the 1/2" flange nuts. One there for the driver. Let's go over to the passenger and do the same. All right, now let's start our final two there in the back. All right, now with all of them in place, let's take a quick look to be sure we have our hitch centered. With that done, we can snug them on down. Now, let's take care of the final 1/2" carriage bolts here. Now, for these we use a 17 millimeter. For this one, you'll need a 19. Now, if we just use a little pry bar here, we'll be able to pull that exhaust over out of the way far enough to get this tight. Now, let's go through and torque them all down to the specification. Now, with the three on this side torqued, we'll take care of that other side. We'll be able to hook up to our trailer. With everything tightened down to specification, that's going to complete today's installation of the Curt Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, Part Number C13193, on our 2015 Ford Transit T-150. .
