How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder

Today on our 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite max frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 76031. What I really like about this Draw-Tite hitch, it's really set up for a person who's going to be towing a trailer and also recreational use. You have this nice bracket that's welded on here to mount your electrical accessories. That way it's one less thing you have to worry about buying in order to have a complete towing package. If we're using it for recreational use, I like the J pin stabilization device hole. If I have a cargo carrier or bike rack back here, I don't want to listen to it rattling around when I'm traveling down the road.

As you can see it's a nice streamline design, which tucks up underneath our rear fascia nicely. The main body of the hitch is hidden behind the fascia, we just really have this center section here hanging down. We have this nice easy to use large safety chain loop opening right here. It's nice welded on collar at the end of the two inch receiver, which helps strengthen it and give it a nice appearance. Now this hitch has a max gross trailer weight rating of 6,000 pounds and a max gross tongue weight rating of 900 pounds. It does support the use of weight distribution but those numbers stay the same.

You'll also want to consult with the owners manual of your Pathfinder and go by whichever number's less. Now for a measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounting accessory you may need such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 14 inches from the ground to the top of two inch receiver opening and about 3 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some of our features here, we'll show you how to get it installed. We're on the passengers side of our vehicle right now. If we look up underneath our frame rail, we'll find our factory tow hook.

We'll need to remove this. There are two 18 millimeter bolts right here and then another two right here. With our tow hook removed on our drivers side, you can see that there are several holes here. I went ahead and circled the three holes on our drivers side frame rail with a paint marker, so you can easily see, which ones they are. These are the ones closest to the center of the vehicle.

Our passengers sides the exact same way. Here's our hardware for our attachment point. We have a bolt, a lock washer, and a flat washer. We'll grab an extra set of hands, raise our hitch in position and attach it with the hardware. Before we raise our hitch up, we'll want to make sure that our bolts will go into the holes nice and easily. If you find that your bolts don't go in easy and you have a little bit of rust in there or some paint or dirt, spray it down with some lubricant and use a pipe brush. We have these available on our website as part number 814092. Run it in and out a couple times and that'll clean up the threads. We're going to raise our hitch up in position with an extra set of hands and thread in our bolt. We'll use a 19 millimeter socket now and tighten these down. We'll just move our exhaust out of the way here a little bit on the passengers side while we tighten these down. Now we'll torque all of our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. That completes our installation of the Draw-Tite max frame class 3 trailer hitch receiver part number 76031 on our 2015 Nissan Pathfinder.
