How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2017 Infiniti QX60

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Infiniti QX60, we're gonna be installing Draw-Tite's Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 76031. This is what our hitch is gonna look like when it's installed on the vehicle. You are gonna be able to see a small portion of the cross tube here, but for the most part it's gonna be tucked back and look pretty nice. It's a two-inch by two-inch receiver, and it features plate style safety chain loops. It's a large opening on the safety chain loops, it's gonna allow to accommodate just about any size safety chain. It uses a 5/8ths-inch hitch pin and clip. Now, one of these doesn't come included with the hitch, but you can pick one up here at eTrailer.com with part number PC3.

The small hole located in front of the hitch pin will allow you to accommodate a J-pin, which acts as an anti-rattle device to keep everything that you've got on your hitch nice and secure and noise-free. Welded onto our hitch, there's a bracket that allows you to mount a 4, 6, or 7 hole connector so that we have your necessary trailer wiring and it's easily accessible. It features the 900-pound tongue weight. That's the force going down on top of the receiver, and a 6000-pound gross towing capacity. That's how much it can pull behind it. When using a weight distribution system, those ratings are gonna remain the same.

Now, you do want to check your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you're not exceeding its capacities. Now, if you're comparing this other hitch is on our website for your QX60, the Draw-Tite's gonna be the highest rated. It's gonna have a much higher tongue weight and gross towing capacity than the one offered from CURT. the drawback to our Draw-Tite here though, is that it is a little bit more visible. Our CURT's gonna be completely hidden behind the bumper, and you're only gonna be able to see the receiving tube. Now to help you on deciding on accessories, I've got some measurements for you.

From the ground to the top inside of the receiving tube, it measures about 14 inches. This is important when deciding if you need to drop or rise on any of your accessories. Now, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper, it measures about 6 inches. This is important when determining if any of your folding accessories can be put in the upright position without contacting the bumper. We'll begin our installation under the vehicle on the driver's side by removing the tow hook. You use an 18-millimeter socket to remove both bolts. Then you remove the two bolts located on the side.

You'll use the same socket to remove the bolts from the side, as well. After you get your last bolt out, we'll set this aside as we're not gonna be reinstalling it. Now we use some spray lubricant. We'll spray out our holes and we're gonna clean them out with a wire brush. You can pick one of these up here at eTrailer.com.This will make installing our hardware easier. We'll do the same thing on the other side. On your charcoal canister located here, your hitch may contact the small corner on the bracket here. We're just gonna trim that off using a pair of tin snips. That'll give us just that little extra room to get that hitch installed properly. We'll take our bolt. We're gonna slide on a lock washer followed by a flat washer, and we'll do this with all of our hardware. Now we'll lift our hitch into position with a extra set of hands. We'll thread our hardware into place, and once we've got one started on each side, the hitch will hold itself into place making it easier to install the remaining hardware. Now tighten down all your hardware with a 19-millimeter socket. Then torque all of your hardware to the specifications in your instructions. That completes our installation of Draw-Tite's Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver on our 2017 Infiniti QX60.

On the passenger side, the muffler is blocking the nut hole and there is very small room to work on. How do you know manage to place to bolt in? Thanks for an advance. Can the muffler be moved or removed?

I've linked an install video on a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. Around the 8:30 mark, our installer Ryan talks about how there is tight clearance for the forwardmost bolt. He was able to use his hand and push it out of the way to give him just enough clearance. He also used a socket extension on that side to give him some extra leverage on the exhaust pipe and to better work in the tight space.
