How to Install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 we're gonna take a look at and also show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer custom fit, class three trailer hitch receiver. This offers the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, it's part number is 76082.Now this is what our hitch is gonna look like installed on the GLC 300. As you can see most of it is hidden in behind that rear fascia so you're only gonna be really adding visually to the rear of the vehicle's gonna be the receiver tube opening, which is two inch by two inch, the rounded reinforcement inaudible 00:00:33 that finishes that off, and your safety chain connection points which are our rounded steel stock here on the bottom.Now this class three hitch is gonna be a very, very versatile hitch. It's gonna work with just about any type of hitch accessory as long as it is rated as a class three and if they make an accessory for a hitch it's probably gonna come in a class three variety, so it should be easy to fine.Now to secure your items in the hitch you're gonna be using the larger of the two holes in the receiver tube opening. That's gonna be five-eighths of an inch in diameter and again, choose a class three accessory. Then as you can see there's gonna be plenty of room around there for whatever accessory you might choose to hold your items, whether it's just the standard pin and clip, locking hitch pin, or even anti-rattle device.

The smaller hole that you see a little bit closer to the rear of the vehicle is only for use with the J-Pin stabilization system, which is just another form of anti-rattle device.Now the hitch offers a tongue weight rating of 675 pounds. That's gonna be the maximum downward force that you can put at the receiver tube opening. It's also gonna give us a 4,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. It's gonna be the total weight of our trailer and anything that you might load up on it. Now you will definitely want to check the owners manual of your GLC 300 to see what its tow rating is and use whichever sets of numbers are lowest.Now a few measurements that you'll find helpful when selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside, top edge of the receiver tube opening we've got about 13 and a half inches.

Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about seven.Now the first thing that we need to get accomplished is removing the taillights here on either side of the vehicle. We'll start by taking off this black cover, you've got two push fasteners located right here at the edge of the taillight, we want to pull the center of those out. Just want to pull that out a little bit. We started with a flat blade screwdriver now we're gonna use a trim panel tool. See that center section will come out and then this is more of a rubbery grommet material here, we'll also pull that out.

We're gonna do this for the two here on the drivers side and the same thing over on the passengers side.Now on the very top edge there you want to pull out slightly and you'll be able to look in behind there and you'll see some fasteners. We'll use our trim panel tool and we want to gently pop those out, working towards the rear. Once we've got all three of those removed it's gonna pull out slightly, we can set this aside.Then we'll open the rear cargo cover here and right in the middle just inside we've got a T-30 torque screw, we want to get that removed. Then we'll just gently pull up on this rear scuff panel all the way across then we'll rotate that out.Now underneath the storage net we need to take this panel out. You just want to push in on the bottom here.

See we can kind of rotate that so it'll be up and out of the way then we'll lift up on panel here and we'll set it aside. We want to take the cover off of our tie down hook here or your cargo hook and we're also gonna remove that screw with the T-40 torques bit.That'll give us room so we can pull out the side panel and we've got three flange nuts to remove. They're all gonna be behind these circle cut outs, we've got one here, one right here above it, and then further in we've got one located right up here. Now we're gonna use a small eight millimeter socket to remove those, just need to be careful not to drop them. Now to help prevent dropping them if you'll take a paper towel and put it on your socket as you feed it on that should grip that nut and help us to keep from losing it.Now we'll just gently pull out on the housing and separate our connector right here. You've got a tab on each side that you'll squeeze in. Now of course we'll want to set our housing somewhere safe. Now we can repeat that same process for the passengers side, you're just not gonna have to worry about that cargo net.Now on each side of the vehicle we'll remove the two 10 millimeter screws that are right down here on the bottom corner, right behind the wheel. Now from the center of the exhaust on each side, one located here and one located here, we've got two more 10 millimeter bolts to take out. Then we'll start to pull out on the wheel well trim around the edge. A little flat blade screwdriver can help you with releasing the clips.Now we've got three rivets you can see one here, one located right here, and then one down here a little bit further that we're gonna pull out. They're gonna work like push pin fasteners so you take the center section out and once you've got that out the whole outer section will come as well.Now we'll pull that wheel well liner back and we've got a bolt that we're gonna remove right behind this back edge. Now to remove this bolt we'll use an eight millimeter socket. Then we'll go over to the passengers side and do the same thing there. Now right here we've got one more push pin fastener kind of where it joins the body to this lower section of fascia, we're gonna remove it the same way we did our other ones.Now with the help of an extra set of hands we'll gently start pulling up and out on the fascia and removing the clips that go around the edge. It may be helpful to have a small screwdriver with you just in case any of them get hung up you can kind of push down, help alleviate that pressure. Then you want to go through and remove any harnesses or any plugs that might be attached to the fascia. You can see where they're zip tied off there, they're just little clips, so you can pull that off.On each corner we've also got a small cover here, we'll pull that off. You can see that comes out white side facing the outside of the fascia but for now we need to get that separated. We'll have one of these on each side. Once we've got all of that cleared out of the way we'll be able to set our fascia aside somewhere safe.Now we're gonna use a 12.38 bit to remove the two bolts that hold the exhaust up to the hanger here. Then with an 18 millimeter wrench we're gonna remove the two nuts located on the bottom bumper bolt. We want to hang on to the nuts we remove from the top and bottom here, this is what we'll reuse for our hitch. Now with those out of the bottom we'll remove the ones on top. Now you want top pull up and down a little bit, there's some . looks like some sticky material behind the bumper beam. We'll pull that out and separate on both sides. We'll set this aside to put it back on in just a minute.Then we'll get our hitch raised up into position. We may have to bend that heat shield just a little bit to give it room, then we'll put our bumper beam back on then re-secure it with the hardware we removed. Now we can get these all snugged back down then we'll torque them to the specifications listed in our instructions.Now we can get our wiring harness put back on the fascia and we'll get it put in place, just reversing the process that we used for removal. Remember when putting in our sensors here on the outside that white part needs to face outward. Now we're gonna work that fascia back in place, be sure that those clips engage as we go. We'll get our exhaust hangers back in position. We'll get our two push pin fasteners right here on this edge on each side, also want to put our little eight millimeter headed screw back in, gonna do that on both sides. Now we'll replace the two bolts that we took out of the rear here then also the two we took out of each side.Now on each of our wheel well liners here we're gonna replace the three push pin fasteners we took out of there, then we can push our side trim back in right around the wheel well there on both sides. Now we're gonna plug our connector back into our taillight here, we'll get it put back in place and secure it inside with the three nuts, and again if we'll use a little piece of paper towel and we push the nut down inside that'll keep it from falling out. Now let's repeat that process for our passengers side.Now we want to get our panels all put back in position here. The weather stripping, you just want to pull that up so it'll roll out and around. If you don't do this these side panel won't sit in position just right. That cover put back in and then this you just have to rotate down and engage it in the two clips. We'll also get our tie down hook put back in. Then you also want to put your scuff panel back in place, just line up those yellow fasteners, tap them down to seat them in, and then again pull up our weather stripping there. Now get your screw put back in the middle there.Then the last thing on each side's gonna be kind of our protective cover. The three push fasteners go in those three holes and this fastener's gonna go over that screw, then we got the two push fasteners to go back in there. Then we'll go put that on the passengers side and our install will be done.With everything back in place that's gonna complete our installation of the Draw-Tite Max-Frame custom fit, class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 76082 on our 2018 Mercedes Benz GLC 300.
