How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Speaker 1: Today in this 2018 Nissan Pathfinder we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Reciver, part number 76031.Here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you'll notice this hitch sits nice and tight up against the rear fascia. But the end of the receiver doesn't stick out past it. So the floating cargo door hatch area, we don't have to worry about running our leg into it.This hitch does have one unique feature that other hitches don't have, which makes this a great candidate for towing trailers. We have this electrical bracket that's welded on to the receiver which serves as a mounting point for any of your wiring harnesses that you may have.On the side of our receiver you'll find two pin holes. The larger diameter one, that's your five eighth industry standard hitch pin hole, they use a pin and clip to secure your hitch knotted accessories.

You can pick up one of those separately on our website as part number PC3.The smaller diameter one closest to the rear of the vehicle that is for our J-Pin stabilization device. And what that does is help alleviate some of the annoying shake, play and rattle out of what's inserted in your receiver.Welded on to the bottom of our receiver is our plate style safety chain loops. And these have a really large opening. So if you have a large diameter safe chain hook like this one, you can easily clip on and clip off.On the back of our receiver we have this nice collar that's welded on. Helps give a nice, finished look and also does help improve the strength of the receiver opening. This hitch features a nine hundred pound max tongue weight rating.

Which is the amount forcing down. And a six thousand pound max reverse trailer weight rating. Which is the amount it can pull. It does support the use of weight distribution and if your using now your trailer, just one thing to keep in mind the rating stay the same, they don't change at all. And as always, you want to make sure you consult with the owners manual of your Pathfinder and not exceed what the vehicle rated for.

Go by whichever number's less. Now for a few measurements, better assist you in any hitch mounted accessory you may need. So just a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier, you're looking at about 14 and a half inches from the ground, to the top of the two inch receiver opening. And about four inches from center of the hitch cut hole through most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, I'd like to point out that some of customers have had issues getting this installed on the driver side of the vehicle. Because the charcoal canister for evaporated emissions systems is slightly in the way. We'll show you how to get around that with some very simple modifications and how to get the hitch installed. To begin our install we're gonna locate ourselves on our driver side of our vehicle.

Our vehicle has a factory tow hook, we need to remove it. In order to remove this lug four, 18 millimeter bolt, well two, they go in horizontally in the side. And then we have two that go in vertically on the bottom. Now we'll point out our attachment points. We're looking at the passenger side. The driver side is the same way, just a mirror image. We'll have three weld nuts in the frame. Two closer together towards the front and the one by itself towards the rear. It's a good idea to take some spray lubricant go inside the threads and just wire brush, which we have avail be on our website as part number 814092, and clean out the threads. This will remove any loose debris or possible corrosion that's inside. And we'll do this for all of our attachment points. Our hitch will be secured with identical hardware at all six mounting locations. We'll have a bolt, a lock washer and a flat washer. Now in some instances, this plastic shield around your charcoal canister may interfere with the hitch on the driver side of the vesicle. If you just cut off the small corner right here, you'll get a little bit more room and the hitch should fit into position a lot better. Now with an extra set of hands we can raise the hitch into position. Go over the exhaust on the passenger side and then raise straight up on the driver side and we'll secure it into place. Once I get one bolt hands tight it'll be a lot easier to put the rest in. With all the hardware now started, we can tighten it down using a 19 millimeter socket. Now we'll torque all our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. And that completes our look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 76031 on this 2018 Nissan Pathfinder.
