How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2006 Ford F-350

Today on our 2006 Ford F350, we'll be installing the Hopkins 7 and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket with Mounting Bracket for the Vehicle End, part number Hm40975. We'll also be using the Universal Mounting Bracket, part number 18140 to mount our 7 and 4-Pole Trailer Connector to the vehicle. Now we're going to go ahead and choose a location that we'll be mounting our new plug. We'll be tying in with the factory 7-way connection. We're going to go ahead and mark and we're going to have to drill two holes to mount our new bracket. Once we have our two holes marked, we'll go ahead and drill them on the bracket. You will need a supply, a bolt and a nut, to connect the bracket to the bumper structure.

In this case, using a quarter inch bolt and a quarter flangelug nut to hold the bracket in place whilewe drill our second hole. Now that we've got the second hole drilled, we'll go ahead and put the second bolt and flange nut in place. With that tightened down, now we're ready to go ahead and attach the bracket that holds a new 7 and 4-way plug. To do this, we'll use the hardware supplied, which is a Phillips-head screw and a locking nut. Now we're ready to make our electrical connection. We'll go ahead and take the factory wiring and feed it out through the 7 or 4-way bracket.

Before we make the connection though, we're going to go ahead and add a little Dielectric Grease, which is part number 11755. We'll go ahead and plug it in to the back of the new 7 and 4-way plug. You want to make sure that it's firmly pushed into place and you hear the locking tab clicked into place. Now that we have our electrical connection made, now we're ready to go ahead and push the new 7 and 4-way plug into the bracket. There are two spring latches, one on top and bottom, that when you push the plug firmly into place, it will catch against the new bracket. Once we have the plug back into the bracket, now we're ready to go ahead and we'll put a couple zip ties on to help secure the factory wiring up out of the way.

Now we'll go ahead and use our tester here to make sure that the new 7-way, as well as the new 4-way are working properly. Now we'll go ahead and test the 4-way. On this one we'll just use a simple test light. All of the functions of our new 7 and 4-way plug seem to be operating correctly, and with that, that'll conclude the installation of our Hopkins 7 and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket with Mounting Bracket for the Vehicle End part number HM40975 on our 2006 Ford F350. .

The video shows an install on a 2006 F350, which uses a US Car connector, which is the round socket you refer to.
