How to Install a TTrailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 GMC Terrain

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2012 GMC Terrain, we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package with a Four-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. That's gonna be part number C56210.So, a wiring harness is designed to stay on the inside of the car at all times. Whenever we get ready to use it, we're just gonna simply drop it out the back hatch, and the wire's gonna rest right on this weather stripping. It's gonna have plenty of give, where it's not gonna damage the wire, we just want to make sure that we stay away from the latch mechanism itself. Then, all we have to do is simply close the hatch, and we can hook up to our trailer. Our wiring is gonna provide us with a four-pole flat trailer connector, giving us all the required lights to get down the road safely, like our tail lights, turn signals, and our brake lights. And, as far as installation goes, it's gonna be very simple, provided that you do have the factory tow package.

It's gonna have one connection point, that's gonna be underneath our floor covering here, and we're gonna have a factory plug that it's gonna plug into. So, now that we've seen the end result of our wiring, and know how it's gonna work, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin installation, you're gonna wanna open up the rear hatch. I've already grabbed our wiring harness, and we're gonna be looking for a plug that's gonna match this. Now, if we lift up on the floor covering, just push it out of the way, over here on the driver's side, if we come to the very corner and look in behind this panel, we can see that factory plug in there that's gonna match up. Now, we have a couple different options of how we're gonna access it.

We can either try to feed your harness in from the outside, and make the connection. But, it is rather far in there. So, what we can also do, is take a large screwdriver or trim panel tool, and remove the connector from the body. There's gonna be a small plastic clip that's holding it in place. Just want to pry it away, and then we can pull that connector out, make the connection a lot easier.Just pry the connector off, then reach in, grab the connector itself, bring it towards the outside.

So, you're gonna match up the plug, make sure it locks into place, and we can just tuck the connector back inside of there. And, our full flat is just gonna store right here by our spare tire until we're ready to use it. But, we're gonna go ahead and test it to make sure that all our lights are functioning. So, I'm gonna plug in my four-pole tester, and if you need one of these, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com, using part number I26.So, I'll go ahead and run through my lights and verify that they're all working properly. So, if I turn my headlights on, we can see that the tail light are coming on, as well as the left turn signal, right turn signal, and our brakes.

All we have left to do is hook up to our trailer, and hit the road. Before we put everything away, we can go ahead and slide our dust cover in place. That'll just help keep out any kind of debris or moisture from getting inside the connector. We'll store it right back here for our spare tire, it'll be ready for us when we tow. That'll finish up your look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package with the Four-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number C56210, on our 2012 GMC Terrain.
