Today on our 2013 Toyota Highlander we'll be installing the Tow Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with four pole flange connector, part number 118449. To begin our install we're going to start in the drivers side kick panel located underneath the dash board. Attached to the manufacturers wiring harness will be a white connector that will match the white connector for our Tow Ready harness and converter box. Now that we've located the connector we'll need to remove the threshold and drivers side kick panel so we can store the converter box and wiring. To remove the threshold we'll use a flat blade screwdriver or interior trim panel tool to gentle pry the panel up and release the fasteners underneath. Next we'll go ahead and repeat the same process with our kick panel only we have one plastic cap nut to remove also.
Now with our panels removed and sit aside for installation we'll go ahead and take the white connector match it with the manufacturers and connect the two. Then we'll give it a couple of quick tugs to make sure the two connectors lock together and are secured. Next we'll go ahead and route the converter box down behind the kick panel to the open area. To secure the converter box we'll use a two way adhesive on the back of the converter, peel away the outer cover, and then adhere it to the seat metal. Now with our wire routed and the converter box mounted we'll go ahead and use the zip ties provided with the install kit to secure the wiring behind the kick panel.
Once secured we'll cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look and reinstall the interior trim component. Next we're going to move tot he back of the vehicle. We're going to remove some interior trim components in order to attach our new four pole connector and harness. We'll start by opening up the rear cargo door and then removing the rear cargo liner. Next we'll remove the center tray cover and the two corner covers.
Go ahead and remove the rear sun shade and sit these aside for installation later. Next we'll need to remove the cargo tray on the drivers side. To do this there's a push pin fastener we'll go ahead and remove and two cap nuts. Once removed we'll go ahead and push in on the sides of the cargo tray to release them and then pull up and remove it from it's position. Now we can locate the manufacturers wiring and the fourth pin white connector that's attached.
You want to match it up with the four pin connector for our four flat wiring harness. Snap the two together. Then use a zip tie to secure the wiring. Once secured we'll cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look. Now we'll go ahead and route the four flat connector to the center cargo tray. Now we're ready to install the cargo pocket. Once we resecure it we'll install the rest of our interior trim components. With that done our next step is to move under the hood. We'll locate the vehicles fuse panel and remove the cover. Then well locate the fuse towing port and install the ten amp fuse provided with our installation kit. Now with that done we can go ahead and reinstall the fuse cover and close the hood. Next we'll go ahead and check the operation of our new four pole connector. Using a test light, connect the ground clamp on the open post of the four flat connector. The first pin from the open post will bet eh running light circuit. The second pin will be the left turn signal and left braking. The third and final pin will be the right turn signal and right braking. Now that we know all functions work we'll go ahead and show you how to use your new four pole connector. Simply take it out of the rear cargo area and run it down to the hitch or accessory. Be careful to stay away from the latch as pitching off in the latch can harm the wire. However, the weather stripping is thick enough that we can simply close the rear cargo door on it. Then once we're finished using our new four pole connector we'll simply roll up the wire and store it in the rear cargo tray. With that this will complete the install of our Tow Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with four pole flat connector, part number 118449 on our 2013 Toyota Highlander.
