How to Install a Trailer Connector Socket on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 we're going to be taking a look at installing the Hopkins Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector with Socket and Mounting Bracket, part number HM40975. Here's what it looks like once it's installed. It's made out of a high-impact ABS plastic with a stainless steel spring and rod. It's going to help against corrosion. It's got a weather-tight seal. It's going to keep out any corrosion or moisture inside of our plug. It has a 7-way and a 4-way.

This plug is going to be a replacement for Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, and Nissan trucks and SUVs to plug into the factory wiring. You can convert yours from just a 7-way into a 4- and 7-way connector. Many of our customers say it's very easy to install. You can either snap it into the factory location on our GM vehicles or it comes with a nice powder-coated bracket to install it on other vehicles. What's nice about this and one of the reasons you would want this one is because it's going to be plugging into our factory plug.

You're not going to have to cut any wires or use any other connectors to attach it. Now, let's go ahead and show you how to install it. This is what your kit is going to consist of. It's going to be your 7-way and your 4-way connector. It will come with a bracket and some hardware. For our application it's going to be on our Chevrolet, it's going to snap into the bumper, so we're not going to need the bracket.

Our first step we're going to do is remove this plastic cover, which is where our factor plug would go and our factory wiring is actually going to be attached to the backside of this cover. We'll just take our panel tooler flat-blade screwdriver and can pry out. We'll just work this out. Once we've got it out, we can push back on this gray lock tab. Once you've slid that back, you're going to push down on that black tab in the center and release our cover, which is pretty much just a dummy cover with our wiring attached to the back of it.

Then, we can take our new Hopkins plug and we'll just reverse that procedure. We'll snap it back in, secure our lock down and we'll just press it into place. Now we have our 7-way access and our or four flat. Now, we can go ahead and test our circuit with a Tekonsha Trailer Emulator, part number 6562, available on our website. We'll try our tail lights, our left turn signal, and our right turn signal, our brake lights. The solid light you see lit up right now is our 12-volt power supply. Now we'll try reverse for our back-up lights. Now we can test our 4 pole flat we're going to be using the Curt 4 flat Connector Tester, part number I26. First we can test our tail lights, our left turn signal, our right turn signal and our brake lights. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Hopkins Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket with Mounting Bracket, part number HM40975 on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.
