How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2017 Acura MDX

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Acura MDX we're going to be installing Curt 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector wiring harness. Part number C56192.This 4-pole flat connector is going to live inside your vehicle and provide you with all the necessary lighting that you'll need. When you're ready to use it, just flip up your cover exposing your wire. You can then drape it over the back, plug it into your trailer, close your lift gate and it will pinch right between your weather stripping which will be fine. It won't damage the wire, it will hold it right in place. This will give you all the necessary lighting that you need for you trailer including your left turn, right turn, brake lamps, and tail lamps. It's going to be DOT compliant in all states.Included with your kit you'll get a dust cap.

This just slides over the connector and will allow you to keep out any dirt and debris while it's stored inside your vehicle. This control module will plug right into the back of your vehicle so it's super easy to install and has its own fuse protection so if you have any faults in your trailer you don't have to worry about it causing any faults on your vehicle. We'll begin our installation here at the back of the vehicle in our storage compartment. You'll find a small tab, you want to lift up on this, and that will give us access to the panel that we'll need to get to to plug in our wiring. You can then use your trim panel remover tool to pop the cover off and this is where we'll be plugging in our harness. You'll then take your wiring. We're going to route it around and over to the connector over here. We'll then plug our connector right into the open slat here.

Make sure that it goes in and clicks in all the way. We'll then need to connect our ground wire. Now if you look down on this panel here, you'll see that there's a bolt there that we can use so we're just going to take that out using a 10 millimeter socket. We'll slide it onto our ground wire and we'll reinstall that bolt. Now take the adhesive backing provided in your kit, peel off one end, we'll stick it to our module. Then we'll peel off the other end and we're going to tuck it back in here and we're just going to stick it right to the wall there.

Now you insert your fuse, open up the dust cover, slide your fuse in, place the cover back on and tuck it back inside your panel. Then take the 10 amp fuse that comes in your kit and you're going to place it in this position right here, right next to this 20 amp fuse. We'll then take the 7.5 amp fuse and we're going to install it in this location here next to this 10 amp fuse. You can not reinstall your panel and now we can plug in our connector to our trailer and test to make sure everything's working properly. We should have our left turn, right turn, tail lamps, and brake lamps. Everything's working properly.

You can now coil up your wire, tuck it into a location out of way and you're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of Curt 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector wiring harness on our 2017 Acura MDX.
