How to Install the Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Hi, I'm Shane with Today we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how to install Draw-Tite's Fifth Wheel Gooseneck Wiring Harness. What this is going to allow you to do is to plug in, in the back of your truck, without having to dangle that wire over the back to your factory wiring.Nice thing about it is, it's gonna allow you to maintain a use of your factory wiring on your bumper, while giving you the extra plug in the back of the truck.It's gonna give you a seven pull connection. A spring loaded lid. The lid is gonna have a foam ring in it that's gonna seal right around this edge to help keep any dirt and debris and moisture from your connection points. It's gonna be a very durable plastic, it's gonna hold up in all weather conditions.

So, it's also gonna have a nice handle, easy grip handle you can pick up with one finger to open your lid and add your wiring.Now that we've gone over the features, let's show you how to get it installed. First thing you need to do is take a quarter inch drill bit. We're gonna find a location in the bed of our truck for our wiring harness. There's a couple different places you can put it. inaudible 00:01:02 pocket is right here.

There's a panel that runs right here. And then the rest of this is all open. But you can put it down here, or you can put it here, I've seen some people put it here. I like to stay back as close to the back as possible so you can just reach in and do it. I'm actually going to go here, 'cause my tie-down's here.

If I get too close, if I have something in here, the strap could potentially damage the front of that plug so I'm gonna do it right over here. Quarter inch drill bit, we're gonna drill a pilot hole.We're gonna take two inch hole saw bit to finish it out. Then we'll take a small file and we're gonna file off the inside of that edge just to knock the burrs off. Once we get the burrs off, clean up your shavings. I'm gonna use a clear coat Rust-Oleum, clear coat, to cover up the bare metal to reduce the risk of rust or corrosion later on.Now we'll take our plug and set it in place.

Take the four screws that come in the kit, put 'em in each corner.Single side of my plug. I would suggest putting some dielectric grease over the connection points. This is really gonna help reduce corrosion later on if any moisture or anything else gets in there. And we'll take our single side, I'm gonna run it right up this side, I'm gonna plug it right back into the back side of the plug.Brought my new wire, I'm gonna route it in such a way that you're not going to . It's not going to get damaged by the spare tire or by any heat or anything like that. Over top the frame right here inaudible 00:03:32. Right down here. We're gonna take our factory plug and pull it off. And then, again, dielectric grease. Here. And plug this into the factory plug. That's gonna go on the other end of our plug of our new wire. Just like that. And we'll bundle up the rest of it, zip tie it up out of the way.Test everything to make sure it's working correctly using an alternate power source. Left turn. Right turn. Brake lights. Running lights.That'll do it for a look at an installation on a Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel Gooseneck Wiring Harness on our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
