How to Install the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness on a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 GMC Sierra 2500, you're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Gooseneck 90 degree wiring harness for 7-pole plug, part number 41157. This is what our 7-pole looks like when it's installed. This is going to allow you to maintain your 7-pole, your factory 7-pole plug on the bumper of the truck, while adding one to the bed of the truck. Now, this is going to be good for when you're pulling your fifth-wheel or gooseneck. You don't have to run your electrical wire over the top of your tailgate, and hook it into your bumper. It's going to stay nicely all inside of your bed. This plug's gonna have a nice spring loaded lid.

So, you can see it's gonna have plenty of pressure to hold that foam seal around this circle here. It's gonna help keep dirt and debris and moisture from getting on your connections. This plug is gonna give you the option to activate your brakes on your trailer. It's also gonna give you your reverse lights, your brake lights, your running lights, both turn signals, and your ground. The other thing I like about this plug is it's not gonna stick out too far inside the bed of the truck, so you're not gonna have to worry about hitting it with anything you're loading or unloading. As far as the installation goes, it is very simple. You're gonna have to drill a small hole into the bed of your truck wherever you choose, and you're gonna run your wire down. It's gonna connect directly into the factory plug.

You'll have a T at the end. One end goes into your factory plug. The other end goes into that plug that you just took out.Now that we've gone over some of the features, let me show you how I did it. First thing we need to do is in the bed of our truck, we need to find a mounting location for our 7-pole plug. Typically, right about in this area is where we would normally put them.

It's a raised area here. It's gonna make sure you have plenty of room between the inside of the bed and the outside of your fender there. About there, and it's gonna be personal preference if you want it up higher or down lower, or any other location. This is just where we typically put them. We're gonna take a two and an eighth inch hole saw bit to drill our hole. Now I'm gonna take a small file and I'm gonna file down the inside edge there, just to knock off the burr.

Then we're gonna take our vacuum and clean up our shavings. Then I suggest taking some clear coat, you can use the black paint or whatever if you have paint that matches the color of your truck bed, and I'm gonna spray that bare metal. Gonna help keep it from corroding and rusting later on down the road. So, now I'm gonna take this end. Easiest way to do it is to reach up from underneath the bed, or in this side here, and stick it through the hole. So, that's what I'll do now. Now we're gonna install our wiring on the back of our plug. That, push it in until it clicks. Go ahead, that in place. Then your kit's gonna come with four self-tightening screws and washers. We'll use a quarter inch socket, and it helps if it's magnetic. If you have a quarter inch socket it's not magnetic, take a piece of paper towel, stick it around top of that. You put the head of the bolt through it, and the paper towel will hold that into your socket. We'll repeat that same thing with the three remaining screws here once we get it straightened up. Just like that. Now we need to get the other end of our wiring harness over to our existing plug. We want to make sure that we're not gonna be by anything moving or hot. So, if you look at all these wires, it's open right up there. We're gonna go right up over top of our frame. We'll simply pull out this gray clip, and if it doesn't come all the way out, it's all right. Doesn't have to come all the way out, just needs to pull back from where it's locked. You're gonna push in and pull out on the plug. Then what we're gonna do is you can see those two are the same. We're just gonna match our two ends, push them together, and this is gonna replace the one you just took out.Now we'll take the rest of our wiring. I'm gonna bundle it up and roll it up here, and then we're gonna zip tie it right up to this existing wiring that we have. Now we'll test out our wiring using an alternate power source. This is gonna simulate being hooked up to your RV. Left turn, right turn, running lights, brake lights. That'll do it for a look at and installation on the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Gooseneck 90 degree wiring harness with 7-pole plug, part number 41157 on our 2018 GMC Sierra 2500.
